Any anime fans here? Which anime series or movies you into?
:DI've devoted myself to Bleach each week for the last 3-4 years since it began airing. It's awesome! I've watched many other animes some of which i can not recall now but the ones i've watched most recently are:
-BLACK LAGOON ( I recommend others to watch this)
- GITS- Stand Alone Complex and Solid State Society
- Devil May Cry (series)
- Appleseed Ex-machina
- Ergo Proxy
-BAKUMATSU (I also recommend this series)
- Persona Trinity Soul
- Gundam Seed 00
- Samurai Champloo

-Kanon (2006) (my av is of Yuuichi)
-Black Lagoon
-Tenga Toppa Gurren Lagann
-Utawarerumono
-Gungrave
-Hellsing TV, Hellsing OVA
and before it comes out
FIRST SQUAD!!!!! (http://www.japanator.com/elephant/post.phtml?pk=9813)
and countless others
Studio Ghibli stuff is quite nice, an ex had some tenious link to someone there. Cowboy Bebop was great. Ghost in the Shell, but didn't like S.A.C. Also, Hellsing, though Hellsing OVA is obviously better (Incognito was the most half assed villain ever created.). Blood the last vampire, Vampire Hunter D.

Agreed. I generally can't bring myself to listen to english dubs, but Cowboy Bebop and Hellsing have excellent ones. And Incognito was just... lame. Alucard needs nazi vampires to fight. It's only proper :D

The Cowboy Bepop english dubbed version was recently aired on Anime Central in UK (can't believe they closed it down as well as CNX but there were only a limited amount of animes shown).
I prefer watching animes in their original format as long as they have english subtitles.

Recently, I've been addicted to Mushi-shi (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZnQrE_eWpco). Fantastic and thought provoking show. I recommend it to friends who don't even watch anime. It's akin to watching a lullaby.

The first anime I ever watched was Neon Genesis Evangelion. I haven't seen all of it, which is probably why when I watched the movie I couldn't make head nor tail of it. I also thought Shinji was perhaps the most annoying character in the entire Multiverse. For fuck's sake kid, there are bigger concerns than your petty personal crap! Keep your head level and your eye on the ball, otherwise people will die. OK, given the destruction wrought by the Angels and whatnot people will die anyway, but hell of a lot less people will die if you stop your whining and do your job! Fuck.
Of course, after that it took a lot of convincing from my sister (who's a complete weeaboo by the way - what with my mum being enough of a World of Warcraft addict to get a job with Blizzard, it seems that geekiness runs in the family) to get me to watch another anime, but considering it was Trigun it was a good thing I did watch it. All of it in fact, so far the only anime series which I have watched the entirety of.
I've also watched more than a few episodes of DragonBall Z. I know a lot of people make fun of this series, but it's a load of fun if you don't take it too seriously. Oh, and smoke a doobie or two while watching it, it adds a whole new perspective. :redstar2000:

That's because he is.

The original Dragon Ball is better, IMO. DBZ focuses on fighting at the expense of everything else. DB has some ass-kicking in it, but it's balanced out- there are more jokes and an 'epic adventure'-ish feel to it. (as it was loosely based off of 'Journey to the West', the Chinese epic novel)

No, I'm fairly sure that that was intentional. If you had watched the rest, there would just be more that you couldn't make head nor tail of. Not that it would be worth watching, it's severely overrated.

Wouldn't this make it even worse?

Wouldn't this make it even worse?I knew this was coming. No, they're of the cutesy Saturday-morning-cartoon variety, which I happen to have a soft spot for-
For example, Pilaf farting and then threatening to cut his henchman in half with a chainsaw unless he took responsibility for it...
Goku, unfamiliar with human anatomy and the concept of gender, touching the crotch of every new person he meets...
Also, one of the Red Ribbon Army generals executes one of his own soldiers for nose-picking.
Yeah, I know it's not Monty Python-esque razor wit, but I happen to like it. Piss off, snob.
As for anime series that are less embarassing to like, I enjoy Cowboy Bebop, FLCL, Evangelion, Akira, et cetera...
I especially like those on the bizarre, psychedelic side- FLCL is probably my favorite so far. Any suggestions for something else like that?
My little brother (read: he's 20) still watches Pokemon.
I liked Elfenlied, but I don't watch much anime otherwise.

Bokusatsu Tenshi Dokuro-chan is sort of similar, in that it is hard to follow the plot, is short, and just strange. Haruhi might also fit your bill.

Elfen Lied was brilliantly fucked up. Though if you want gore and a brand new case of clinical depression, watch Saikano (http://zone-anime.com/anime/saikano.html). This beats out Elfen Lied in my opinion, though I warn you: this will make you miserable.

actually besides the obvious exploitation, the manga was fucking great. in the manga it was perfectly legit to kill the other pokemon or trainer. it was hardcore compared to the show.

My little brother (read: he's 20) still watches Pokemon. From what I remember, the show was rather disappointing compared to the (addictive as fuck, IIRC) game when I used to play it. I doubt that I would appreciate the plot any more now.
Anyways, Lain and Grave of the Fireflies (an extremely powerful movie) are both very awesome. Currently watching 'Space Runaway Ideon'. Very dark, I like it so far.

I'm about to start watching Ghost in the Shell. Thoughts on it?SAC (1 and 2, I prefer 2 somewhat) is good, I didn't really like the movies that much, though.
Anyways, Ideon was great (and Evangelion is a crappy Ideon ripoff), and Legend of the Galactic Heroes is probably the best anime I've seen so far, and is just incredibly awesome. It manages to be somehow written slightly better than Monster, human beings look human, it has a massive cast (in the first few season or so, they display the character's name the first time they pop up in each episode, and you'll probably need it) in which pretty much every character is great (an advantage of having 110 episodes), and anyone can die. Also, its soundtrack is made up of classical music (it only has one or two original pieces of music, and those are still good), which fits perfectly. One can pick up a well subbed version from Central Anime.
