View Full Version : wisdom teeth
I'm 20 so I'm currently having a "wisdom teeth " situation....but I'm taking a wait and see approach, because (1) it's not causing that much pain (2) I can't fuckin' afford it.
I'm a bit worried that my face will fall out if I do that. But whatevs....

I had my two upper jaw wisdom teeth extracted just last month. It wasn't painful at all although I was given anaesthetic. Even several hours and days following the extraction i didn't feel any pain. The only issue is that you have to let the blood clot heal thus you can not eat solid foods for a few days........but it was fine! As long as you keep your mouth hygienically clean you won't experience any pain or infections.
Oh and I had mine extracted since they were causing some discomfort to my lower jaw as my lower molars haven't grown out yet. Also i do full-contact freestlye sparring during martial arts training and have to attend competitions thus i honestly felt they may cause severe injury to my jaw(neither can i breathe properly with my gum shields on- its my only source of protection). Anyway to cut a long story short the extraction solved many minor issues.:)

I had all four of mine removed at once (the bottom two were growing in horizontally ) After the operation, I was still really drugged up and evidently as soon as I stumbled over to the "recovery" area, I passed out again for over an hour
Then I got the dreaded "chipmunk cheeks" due to the swelling.

When I was about 18 there were two incidences where it felt like they were coming through, but both times the aches died down.

long ago when i was just a young and naive kid.
Got mine out when I was 17 or so. The anesthetic was fun; I mumbled lots of dumb shit on the car ride. Didn't think I would need the drugs (I was a tough sxe kid) but that thought ended as soon as the anesthetic wore off.

I'm guessing that you're depressingly old with that kind of wording. Plus, I couldn't help but think...
Remember when I said 'I love you'?
Well, forget it! I take it back!
I was just a stupid kid back then.
I take back every word that I said.
I always feel so much younger when I hear that song, and I feel better in spite of my not being a teenager anymore. :)

I ripped them out myself through my ears because I am a nutter.

I don't think it's really a necessary procedure, but if insurance's paying for it then it's worth it simply for the drugs alone. Luckily, I got vicodin instead of the usual tylenol 3's.

I had all four removed six years ago. I was so doped up on drugs from the pain I couldn't tell you how it felt. I just remember the gauze being annoying for about a week.

No. I had some major aches due to them when they first came through, but I dealt with that by using painkillers until it passed. Atm the wisdom teeth cause me no problems, so I see no point in wasting money on getting rid of them.
WTF wisdom tooth is?

The last 4 teeth, which you usually don't get before adolescence or adult age. As I've understood it the human jawbone is due to evolution no longer long enough to properly have place for them.
That's why many people get problems with them (it can be very painful), and often choose to get them removed.

I had all four removed six years ago. I was so doped up on drugs from the pain I couldn't tell you how it felt. I just remember the gauze being annoying for about a week. When I did mine, the 2 on the lower jaw, I was told that I could only remove one tooth at a time as both sides of the jaw drugged was dangereous. It could cause a blockage of the air supply.
The whole procedure was painful from the start to the end, even though I had 4 shots of tranquiliser. First they had to use a bonesaw to saw of the top of the tooth, then a stem to forcefully split it into three parts followed by sawing off a chunk of the jaw bone to allow the parts to be dragged out one after another by a large forceps. Then I got a penicillin pillow into the hole and the skin stitched together. This lasted for about 2 hours.
After the procedure I got to spit blood for a week and I still have holes in the back off my mouth. I was in the civil service at the time so I got it for free though and anastesia would have costed a bunch of cash so I was way to stubborn to do it that way.

I've not had any serious problems with my wisdom teeth. They hurt a bit when they started coming through, but otherwise they're fine. I just hope they don't end up coming out funny like my canines did - they look kinda like fangs!
