View Full Version : Metal lined vest of some kind?

I've been thinking of making something that would be resistant to some projectiles like rubber bullets, maybe even low calibre real bullets, knives etc, made out of a simple Auscam BDU top from the army surplus.

Am I being realistic? Does anyone have some input, guides etc?

Any help appreciated, comrades.

-Lewis :)

You're being very unrealistic. Besides, revleft is not the place to ask about weaponry or whatever. Even though your bulletproof vest idea isn't a weapon per se, its still outside of the scope of what this forum is for.

OK, I'm not an expert on the actual subject which is why I asked here, but I've seen people asking about gas masks etc I thought this would be justified...

Never heard of that forum before, and although they have some good topics, the users seem ridiculously reactionary, lol.

Yes, its quite the melting pot of racists, druggies and survivalists. Generally the type of people who can answer these types of questions if you can wade through the abuse. As a side note its also an example of what revleft would be if the vivian west anarchists had their way on revleft. The difference is that zoklet functions because its the TOTSE crowd.

i don't see how there's anything wrong with this. he's nto asking how to build a weapon, he wants something that will protect him from typical riot police weapons (rubber bullets) how is this any worse than a gas mask or a shield?

in response to OP: try cutting sheets of steel about a 5 millimeters thick, in to rectangles (let's say 3x5) and sowing them inside a vest, leave alittle room between each plate in order to allow for you to twist and turn. it definitely won't stop a bullet but it might stop a rubber one...i doubt this will work:D

Hmmm. This belongs somewhere else. Like chit chat, where I've now moved it. Maybe even the trash.

I don't know a lot of physics, but I doubt a small layer of metal would do anything against the impact of rubber bullets. The better option if is thick layers of clothes, it works for batons, so it should work for rubber bullets too.

I think if there was a vest that could realy stop that more people would use it already. Just wear padding, for batons too.

If you can get hold of a stab vest, that might be stiff enough to spread out the impact of a rubber bullet.

Chainmail.

Modern stab vests are actually a form of chainmail - thanks to modern manufacturing techniques we can make them out of really tiny rings.

A modern reproduction of old-style (IE medieval) chainmail would be pretty useless - it's too flexible.

Well dammit all to hell, now this thread actually contains some good info. If someone wants to move it back to DIY that's cool with me. ;)
