I presume the 15 is refering to your IQ, right?
The reason they changed his name is because it is a work of fiction.

I don't think the movie is complete fiction. I think it is loosely based on his life but with added fictitious events.
As for your homophobia, it is not wanted here.

I find it horribly offensive. I hate Eminem first, so you can base this on previous bias.
Two of the characters are supposedly white. Rabbit and Cheddar I think. They are also the main characters growing up in the Black Ghetto. Apparently, the point of the movie was succeeding in the Music industry and how hard it was. As a result this gets you out of the ghetto, but of course they decide that white people should be the ones escaping from the Black ghetto. How they can rise above the problems that the Black ghetto throws at them.
Also, lets think about the end. One of the white actors is in a freestyle battle or something with a Black actor. He calls him out as a sell-out because of his suburban upbrining. So all rap has got to be from the ghetto apparently and isn't related to race? I personally viewed it as an attack on Black music, a blatant white wash based on the white dream of calling a Black person out as an Uncle Tom because of their suburban upbringing, since Blacks like me are supposed to be poor and living in the ghetto, we lose all that makes us Black when we live in the suburbs. The white community has us figured out perfectly. I'm glad Eminem took part in proving that.

umoja, if you really want rap to advance as an art form you shouldn't limit it to race, nationality, upbringing or anything. Base it on skillz. Rap has never been about race. It is predominantly black because it was started by us and then we turned ourselves into a demographic for corporate shit mongers.

whoa we didn't turn into shit. The problem is though that when ever we as a people create music and culture it's taken away
jazz-gone
rock and roll-gone
and those are only two examples
There is alot of good hip hop still out there only it's underground or concious..ie good.
If you haven't heard of these artist i suggest you do
THe Roots
Mos Def
Talib Kweli
Dialated peoples
Jurassic Five
among others

hey man im not sayin all black people or"Black music" is shit. jurassic five, mos def and the roots are my personaol favorites out of those five. Especially Jurassic5. I have heard of and own music by all of them by the way. Im just saying that rap as an art form can't be confined to race or anything else. plus, not all "black' musci has been taken away. Jazz is stuill great.

I don't want hip hp to be confined but the hip hop culture has been skewed by the media and isn't what it used to be and it pisses me the fuck off

I haven't seen the movie but I feel Umoja has some good points. Still, Hiphop is not a completly Black thing. A lot of the elements can be traced back to culture of people with African descent, but it was born in the ghettos of New York. The majority might have been blacks but I think other "races" like latinos and whites did contributions too in the early stage of Hiphop? Hiphop is about struggles, "race" & CLASS. I don't think suburban blacks have more "right" to the culture than white ghetto youth.

what white ghettos? The only white ghettos are in Europe mainly in Germany where Jews used to live during the WWII era.
Most poor whites live in slums or trailer parks.
Hip Hop originated in the south bronx, which was prodominately black and hispanic
I'm not saying white people weren't included but it was very rare.

And I'm not saying that they shouldn't be included in Rap, but they shouldn't prove in a Movie that it's restricted to class, because that is my view of a white capitalist fantasy. Grabbing onto a good idea of Black origin, and then using it to make tons of money. I'm not saying Black rappers are any better, but Uncle Toms are a helluva a lot better then wannabe white boys who hang around blacks to prove that they are so gansta.
Where I went to High School, their was an Italian guy, who thought because he hung around mostly Black guys that it gave him to the right to throw nigga this, and nigga that around. It pissed me off, but I couldn't beat the guy in a fight, and his friends were pretty much much to good house negros to say anything about it.

Um those jewish ghettos don't exist anymore... but there are ghettos in Europe, yeah... anyway, that was not my point... like you said the ghettos in New York is prodominately black... but like hispanics made great contributions to breakdance... and there was a minority of other "races" too in those ghettos...
Umoja,
Like i said, i agree with you on that. The scene you described was absurb, when the black kid was booed out cuz he's suburbian... that's wack...

yeah break dancincg was pioneered by alot of Hispanics
that and tagging were really the only ones were they were on level with black participation
As far as the suburban kids...they have no street cred...is this right hell nah. Though I mean if you think about it Shady wasn't even from Detroit he's from Warren.
Though I mean now everyone and their mother can get on MTV or BET if they are Flossin
But I've noticed alot of suburban black kids in white suburbs are self hating, stereotyping their own race and being racist towards blacks in general not all are but I've met alot.

But that's just it: what's on MTV and BET is NOT hip-hop in any sense. It doesn't retain or promote hip hop culture. It's just all about money, sex, drugs, and bling. As a fan of hip hop, ie: The Roots, Mos Def, Tribe Called Quest, Talib Kweli, Black Star, Blackalicious, Souls of Mischief, I despise anything that would attempt to call itself hip hop, when the content is purely a no talent MC talkin about how big his fuckin "dubs" are.
Here are the facts: In order to be hip hop, it must contain the basic 4 elements: B-boying (presently called breakdancing, which is also something the record industry made up) graffiti writing (expression of ART on different plaforms, not your lil highschool thugs battling for names on a bathroom wall) MCing, and DJing.
An example: Dilated Peoples: Iris Science and Evidence (the two MCs) are also graffitti writers and somewhat b-boys (which also includes popping/locking, other forms of street dancing). They have an ACTIVE DJ in their group, he's not just a stage prop. His name is DJ Babu, and he's got talent, unlike P-diddy's seceratary's kid, who you see pushing buttons on 1200s and scratching in his headphones whenever p-diddy is on tv.
So aside from the incoherent rambling (sorry, I'm defensive about music I like) the purpose of this post was to state the facts as well as several opinions: Eminem is a good battle MC, but that's it. He is NOT a representation of Hip Hop. Personally, I think it's one HUGE facade. The record company used him as pre-packaged teen angst, a way to connect with today's "urban" culture, predominantely white kids decked out in Sean John and Roca Wear. Jazz and hip hop were once genuine, but once those god damn record companys sink their claws into an artist, they drain him of whatever original or sometimes intellectual style he had, and their content is replaced by pre-written lyrics about nothing more than *****es and hoes. Ever since rap became such a popular genre of music, real hip hop has gone through several other names such as Indy Hip HOp, Underground Hip Hop, and the most appaling of all....Smart Rap. Hopefully, I shed some light on Hip Hop, but I'm pretty sure all I did was confuse.

The reason we are censored by political correcteness is the same reason we are censored by laws, censored by money, and an amount of other things. You have to be un-PC at the right moments to make a change. Sure Rap and Hip-hop can suck, and Punk can suck, but it's a personal attack at a person grounded in your opinion, which can offend people greater then political theory.

Spartacus no one said you cant dislike something but why do all you guys who love punk come to these threads and start trouble?
You never see us go into punk threads and dispunks. Hell all those guys who love metal make threads, I can't stand metal but I don't go into their threads and start talkin shit. We just wanted a conversation on hip hop, why you gotta start shit?
PS: Has anyone else noticed that 2Pac has released more albums after he died then when he was alive? And he didn't like to be in the studio alot so I'm thinking he is alive.
