I know most of us here were Tropico fans, and should be pleased to hear the latest version is in development!
Tropico 3 is an upcoming 2009 politics and city building video game (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Video_game) developed by Haemimont Games (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haemimont_Games) and published by Kalypso Media (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kalypso_Media) and it is a sequel to Tropico (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tropico). The game will return to the roots of the series, putting the player into the shoes of "El Presidente" - a dictator governing over an island banana republic (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Banana_republic). Staying true to the spirit of Tropico, the new game will be a construction and management simulation with heavy emphasis on city building. Tropico 3 is scheduled to be released in the second half of 2009.

I fucking loved the first game and it's good to see they've basically ignored all that fucking "Pirate Cove" rubbish. I'm in the same position as 理想的中国, my ancient pile of crap probably won't run it.

Hands up who else always puts the religious leaders in jail.

This seems cool.
I loved the first. I play as a pro-US fascist dictator most of the time.

I had them executed. I needed that jail space for the various other factions arrayed against me. If it wasn't for my disproportionately enormous military and the ability to screw with votes I think I'd have been utterly fucked.
If its ever a pain to copy my name just refer to me as Jia. ;)
Will do, cheers.

They claim it will have some multiplayer features. So my Presidente can walk around Jazzrat's island, maybe even do light trade, etc. lets see if that pans out, will be nice.

The first Tropico was probably the coolest game ever devised!!! I remember once focusing all of my country's budget into funding a huge military, so that when the militarists try to have a coup d'état against me, the whole island turns into a massive battle because 80% of my people are in the military.

The first game was a bit fun. But it is too much sim city and not enough strategy.

Nah we have just diffrent opinions of what a good game is all about. I value strategy, trying to coming up with the best desicions based on the situation. While you value simulation, no challanges just like watching a movie.

Its shooting for a September release. I've seen screenshots. It looks great!
Engage in a tropical power trip! Become the dictator of a remote island during the Cold War. Charm, persuade, intimidate, oppress, or cheat your people to stay in power! Are you a kind and generous leader? A corrupt and ruthless tyrant ruling with an iron fist? Turn your island into a tourist paradise or an industrial power. Make promises to the electorate or slander political adversaries to get the crucial votes for the upcoming elections. Send your avatar to congratulate the people, visit the island of another player, or just sun-bathe on the Caribbean beach.
Play the Cold War superpowers against each other to your maximum advantage. Tropico 3 offers a tongue-in-cheek, light-hearted take on real world issues like third world politics, corruption and totalitarian regimes.

Tropico 3 stays true to the heart and soul of the original Tropico. One of the most prominent features of the sequel is your own, freely customizable avatar. This time, you will be able to slip into the clothes of El Presidente, wander about Tropico Island and directly influence your people.
Avatar Features:
• The avatar is a special customizable unit that the player creates and controls.
• Avatars can be male or female
• The player is able to customize the avatar's face, hairstyle, facial hair, hat, clothing, and additional accessories.
• The avatar travels across the island on foot or with his limo.
• The avatar is able to speed up constructions, inspect buildings, address the people from the balcony of his palace, calm down a protest, or go on a diplomatic mission abroad.
• The avatar may also engage in combat and personally shoot down rebels. If he is unlucky enough to be wounded, he can retreat to his palace to recuperate.
You can make your Avatar, look like Fidel or Che or anyone you want!!!
