Recently some comrades have been complaining that there are some problems with the history forum: it is dominated by simple-minded poll threads such as "YUR Opinion on TROTSKY" or denunciations of historical personalities. But mostly, the underlying problem that myself and many have pointed out is a focus on the same revolutionary events in the 20th century, such as the Russian Revolution, Kronstadt, the Spanish Civil War, etc. Discussions on events before the 20th century, as well as discussions on non-European history, seem suspiciously lacking.
Since I've been trusted by the CC to moderate this forum, I intend to clean it up and make it a productive atmosphere where everyone can productively discuss and learn about history. With that in mind, I'd like you to keep these things in mind before posting:
- Always, always be civil and respectful of other posters. I am very strict about flaming, it will not be tolerated here.
- Similarly, one-line posts that do not present any argument or evidence will be trashed, as will off-topic posts.
- If what you have is a question about history, please post it in Learning or Research and Online Classes first.
- Please refrain from posting inflammatory threads that are intended to attack some historical figure or movement. Threads such as "Lenin was a man of farce" will be moved to Learning, or trashed as I see fit.
- Likewise, don't post threads that aren't seriously intended to discuss history in some way. This includes most of alternate history ("What if Che had lived?") as well as idle speculation ("Which group would you have joined in the Spanish Civil War?"). Such threads will most likely be moved to Chit-Chat.
- Keep in mind that things such as the Russian Revolution get discussed a lot here. If you want to learn about that but don't have the time to crack open a book, we have a handy guide to frequent topics of discussion (http://www.revleft.com/vb/frequent-topics-discussion-t62567/index.html).
- If you're studying history at school, don't be shy, share what you're learning and what you've written! I'd like to see a lot more posters gracing our forum with their high school/college essays.
Well, that's all for now. Have fun, be civil and try to learn.
