View Full Version : How is the EU a barrier to class struggle?
Expanding from this thread (http://www.revleft.com/vb/bnp-vs-no2eu-t108672/index.html)since its topical. How precisely is the EU a barrier to workers struggles. Learning bits and bobs outside of an academic setting leaves my knowledge in this area quite patchy so taking it from the top would be best for me, thanks.

I think the euro-scepticism on the left originates from the idea that the EU represents a big business playground for the bourgeioise. I think to some extent this is correct, if we take the Republic of Ireland as a case study. Privatisation there has gone up, and living standards on the surface for the working class appear to be going down. I'm sure our free state comrades will back me up on that.
I think it really comes down to wether or not galvanising the cross european working class is worth the hassle that you get in the immediate term basis.

But why do you connect something that has been a world-wide trend to the EU? Privatisation has increased in our country and living standards have gone down too. We are not in the EU.

I will only say, that the EU originated as a collaboration of european steel industry.
And today it has been renamed as the union of the people of Europe.
Every decision it has made,it has been made to organize anti-working class reforms, for the countries- members.
Maastricht,Lisbon,Bologna,White bible,Green bible, all these are milestones that launched the attack of reforms in working relations, education, privatisations, and so forth.
The participation in it should be only in the way of participating in the parliament. Propaganda purposes only.
