"The "false positives" scandal has revealed that the army murdered civilians, who were then dressed in rebel uniforms or given guns. They were then presented as guerrillas or paramilitaries killed in combat. These allowed units to fabricate results, and officers to gain promotion.
The number of victims is believed to be in the thousands."

This is nothing new. The Colombian state has been doing false flag style attacks since the beginning of the war. So it's not surprising that they would stoop to this in order to both make it look like they are winning, and to cover up the deaths of civilians.
One can only hope that as more of this comes out it will turn more people against the government.

You can expect such an act which shows a government to be deceitful and barbaric will get limited coverage. Or they'll gloss over it and twist the story.

After you read stuff like this:
it was found that poor, young men had been recruited from the slums of Bogota, promised well-paying jobs in the province of Norte de Santander, then murdered in cold blood and presented by the army as having been killed in combat.
It is alleged that soldiers were sent to the city of Medellin to round up homeless people from the streets who were later presented by the army as rebels killed in combat.
it's just incredible to think that the bourgeoisie (and their media) have the nerve to call themselves "anti-terrorists". :cursing:
In reality, it's obvious that the imperialists and their lackeys are way, way worse than groups like Al-Qaeda.

I agree with you this is barbaric.

There are no words for this... the best I can think of is genocide.
But you cannot expect any better from a fascist maniac like Uribe.
I hope the FARC will get him and give him the punishment he deserves very soon.

Wow. I mean we all knew the Colombian state is downright putrid, but they've outdone themselves this time. As if murdering every union leader in the country wasn't enough, they need to murder people at random. Of course, I doubt we'll hear anything from their imperialist sponsors in the US, other than more counterfactual condemnations of FARC.
Thanks for the info Tupac, the next idiot who tells me that FARC is Colombia's problem is going to regret it.

Being Colombian, I will be first to tell you right now that the FARC ARE a problem in Colombia's class struggle. Their oppressive measures are counterproductive, and they have been alienated from the masses to the point of almost unanimous condemnation, not simply because of a right-wing media (which does its best to ignore the equally (if not worse) Paramilitaries) but because of waves of country-side people, such as farmers, into urban areas forced from their homes because of harassment and systematic oppression. Their exploitation of coca production has crippled their economy and has only given the reactionary government more leverage to wage war against the labor movement and become a foothold for imperialism. I do not support Uribe at all, but neither would I support the FARC just as I would not support the oppressive Taliban in their struggle against invading US forces; the FARC are a disgrace to my people and a mockery of socialist organization that too many leftists without enough trustworthy exposure to FARC atrocities, or rather too much reluctance to reject a leftist organization, applaude to no end.
Fuck Uribe, and Fuck the narco-trafficking monkeys increasing systematic and reactionary oppression of Colombians.

About fucking time this gets play in the mainstream english language media. This is an old story. I guess they were struggling to figure out how to spin it or waiting to release it at a more amenable time.
