Just wondering how old users of this site are. There is a common belief that most far-leftists are just young, angry teenagers. Several old people who I have had discussions with have often said they used to be socialists or commies etc but as they got older and entered the world of "real Politique" they accepted that the lefts views were outdated, non applicable etc.

I think it resembles in some way proportional regrouping. Though the 19-24 group needs to be split up in 18-21 and 22-25 imo.

I'm 55. Go ahead and laugh at me being old -- my own college-age kids do. But at least I had the chance to be there at that rare moment when the birth control pill had just became easily available and every sexually-transmitted disease could be easily cured with antibiotics. It was as memorable as it was ephemeral.

By the way, it's true what they say that everyone in my generation knows exactly what they were doing when the news was announced that President Kennedy had been shot. I was in Mrs. McGurk's 5th grade, writing on a worksheet, and trying to figure out how to spell "chicken."

Do you think we're heading in the 'right direction?' Are you optimistic?

I'm actually kinda curious.

Young people tend to see everything as a snapshot, right when they come of age. You, on the other hand, have some perspective.

Maybe everyone in our generation will remember when Obama was elected, that'd be funny. I was eating some burritos and my black friend next to me started crying. And I mean just weeping out buckets.

I'm pessimistic about significant social change being delayed for a long time. So many people are stuck in the program loop -- get more liberal for about five to ten years, then announce the discovery of how impractical that is, then get more conservative for about five to ten years, then announce the discovery of how impractical that is, then start the loop over again. I think the motor of human history is stalled.

A little morbid, but this is interesting -

Date of birth: Feb 12, 1986(change) (http://javascript%3Cb%3E%3C/b%3E:showBirthdaySelector%28%29)
Age: 23 years, 87 days(browse) (http://dead.atyourage.com/grave/browse)

You are 23 years and 87 days old today.

You've outlived River Phoenix by about two weeks. He was an Oscar-nominated film actor who starred in "Stand by Me" (1986) and "My Own Private Idaho" (1991). He died of an overdose of cocaine and heroin on October 31, 1993, when you were 7 years old.

Countdown: 11 days…
In 11 days, when you reach 23 years and 98 days of age, your lifespan will surpass that of a member of the White Rose resistance whose 1942-43 leaflet campaign opposed Hitler's Nazi regime.

River Phoenix wasn't the only notable who died at about this age:
You've outlived Najai Turpin by more than a month. He was a middleweight boxer and contestant on the boxing reality show "The Contender" (2005). He died of suicide by gunshot on February 14, 2005, when you were 19 years old.

Hank Gathers was about 2 months younger than you when he died of cardiac arrest on March 4, 1990. He was a second college basketball player in history to lead in scoring and rebounding in the same season. You were 4 years old when he died.

You've outlived Dominique Dunne by more than 3 months. She was an actress most noted for her role in "Poltergeist" (1982) and the daughter of Dominick Dune. She died of murder by strangulation on November 4, 1982, 4 years before you were born.

Terry Fox was about 4 months younger than you when he died of cancer on June 28, 1981. He was an athlete and activist who ran across Canada on an artifical leg to raise money for cancer research. He died 5 years before you were born.

Me:You've outlived Anastasia by almost a week. She was a the youngest daughter of Russia's last sovereign, Tsar Nicholas II. She died of murder by Bolshevik police on July 17, 1918, 74 years before you were born.

Lmaoo .. my reasoning behind the categories were that 19-24 would be people who are students or within the self-realization phase. 25-50 as that would be people who are past this phase and have gained a fair amount of life experience and stuff.

Ha, great poll. Im 18

But the results are interesting. Either the new generation is a radical hope for the world or people just grow out of socialism
or there are more young people on internet than middle aged or old

To be honest, I don't remember that exact moment anymore...

But I remember 9-11 like it was yesterday, and I think most of our generation will.
