Evolution is not about "getting better" it's about adapting adequately enough to circumstances to survive. Humans in the course of their evolution sacrificed brute strength for smarts. Considering there are large numbers of us on almost every continent I'd say intelligence is proving to be a successful strategy.
The above quote is also an interesting statement on the mindset of these ignoramuses. We didn't "decide" to get weaker - there is no overarching plan or purpose to natural evolution - and thinking there is, is the thinking of a child.

That is, actually, a very interesting scientific debate. Why do homo sapiens have such enormous penises compared to apes? The most accepted theory is tho one that females chose bigger ones for pleasure, and that is certainly one of the things that distinct humans from other animals. Natural selection took care of the rest, and now even the smallest penis in the world makes a gorilla blush.
Sperm competition. Our female to male ratio his higher than, say gorillas. Male gorillas are outnumbered by female and have "harems" of multiple females. Because there isnt much competition, they have smaller genitals and testicles.

Yes, but female chimpanzees, for example, are much more "promiscous" than humans. While the gorillas and orangutans are the most monogamous, and humans in the middle, female chimps mate with several different partners. Yet again, humans have bigger penises and testicles than chimps. That explains why chipms have bigger penises than gorillas, but that doesn't explain why it's not bigger than a human penis.
Than why don't the chimps have bigger penises than homo sapiens?
Scientists say that the deciding factor was the concept of pleasure. Longer penis is better for mating for several reasons, and only humans "found" pleasure as one of them. Bigger penis is more satifying than a smaller one. Actually, penis size among apes is one of the issues that scientists like to put out as a direct proof of evolution.
So, yeah, penis size does have to do with "simple" sperm competition, but add pleasure to it and the image is complete.
Things like making it fun outside of reproduction don't factor into evolution any more than the act is necessary. Because its nice isn't a competitive trait. Anyway its always difficult to try and study the naked ape. Lets just say that we're complicated, because imposed patriarchal society and evolution make for a bumpy road when trying to compare what are bodies are for, what they are used for and what we are allowed to speak of freely. Theres no possible way you can say that human women are less sexually active than chimps if you take into account the oppressive nature of society. You might want to make a Sciences and Environment thread on it actually.

I think there is no need for a new thread, simply because we are damn well offtopic on this one.
Yes, it is hard to understand sexual behaviour when partiachal "values" are imposed on humanity for many, many years. I agree with you here.
But it has to be said, that there is loads of studies that support idea of pleasure as one of the dominant factors in evolution of human genitals.

I was in the sixth grade (approx.) when I was introduced to atheism from the classified section of the local free newspaper -- I sent in for information, etc., blah, blah, blah....
Lemme tell you -- this was 25 years ago, and there was *no* freakin' YouTube -- that guy's rant is the *absolute payoff* for being an atheist, here in the era of YouTube. In the past you'd have to put up with that kind of thing in the guise of a *serious debate*, with the Christer *in the same room as you*. Now we can crack open a beer and get this shit *without even going to cable* for it...!
If I had better business sense I'd open up a storefront, build a stage, and get these intellectually lazy types to rant at the paying customers while I keep the take. But I guess seeing it for free on YouTube is better for everyone, still....
Anytime people hit the ceiling of their intellectual capacities and don't have the good sense to shut the fuck up, *** we win *** -- whatever they spew at that point may be *pure gold* for entertainment purposes, if one is in the mood for that sort of thing....
