Get a CB radio, broadcast whatever you want. That is the cheapest way I can think of.

What about those mp3 player to car broadcasters? Could that be modified to have a large broadcast area? Also what's the deal with frequency crystals?

I thought CB radios only had something like a handful of preset channels, so you'd be hijacking like one of the very few channels available to everyone in the area. I can imagine that pissing them off a bit tbh.
How about making a FM trasmitter? You'd have to check on how legal that is in your area, as there may be licensing issues (there definatly is in the UK). If it is illegal then unless you've got a very powerful antenna it'll be jammed within the week. To get the kind of power to avoid jamming would mean it wouldnt be portable, so it'd get raided pretty quickly by the army.

IIRC, an issue of Anarchist Review (put out by Cienfuegos Press) from the late 70s or early 80s had a pretty in-depth article on DIY pirate radio broadcasting. See if any libraries (http://www.worldcat.org/oclc/5326116) or infoshops near you happen to have back issues (would be great if someone could scan the article).
You can also try the Complete Manual of Pirate Radio (http://www.zinelibrary.info/complete-manual-pirate-radio), and there's probably some more stuff on zinelibrary that may be useful.

Could try this as a little experiment. I'm planning on building one to see if it works or not. I'm legaly required to state that I have no intention of actualy broadcasting on it though.
Obviously, with only a 9v battery and the circuitary bieng tailored for that kind of power, you wont have much range and it'll be very prone to jamming, but you could expand upon the basic design if you were so inclined.

I've managed to get most of the components together from bits and pieces that I'll be desoldering off random bits of electricals that I've found on fly-tips. You can find guides online on how to identify electronic components so you can see what it is that you're actualy pulling out of this junk. The bits you're missing could be aquired online too by something like Bitsbox, but bear in mind that's leaving a papertrail.

One can download this whole pamphlet. It was made by lefties as well...I'm hoping that no one already posted this, but I don't see it. As I am not allowed to post links it is at scribd.com just search for "the complete manual of pirate radio"
Or just add wwwdot to the beginning and remove spaces before "doc" and before "the-complete..."

Hey also you should podcast. You can get set up for like 5 euros for a skype mic and open source audio software like audacity. Link your broadcast in iTunes and you'll have a ton of listeners.

Haha, I got a really nasaly voice, so I doubt that'll happen anytime soon, although I do intend on getting very drunk tonight, we'll see what happens.
Trying to download the RevLeft song list but it seems to be taking it's time finding the songs.

If you still haven't got something set up, visit this site: www.flirtfm.tk
The guy is twenty-something, I knew him from school but he's a genious at setting up pirate radio stations, he's been on and off the air for 10 years now.

look around on grimeforum.com or RWD website. i remember some links being posted on there a few years ago about how to set up pirate radio
chances are you will get shut down quickly or get your flat rushed by another radio or you antena broken/stolen
and if none of those things happen, then no ones listening
