I work with this very conservative and ultra catholic ex-marine who served in Iraq. This guy is pretty intense. His office is adorn with Marine Corps flags, plaques and like little top tanks and shit. He has an american flag in a wooden frame with more plaques and pictures of him in the desert in his fatigue with his rifle bla bla bla. Oh! and a huge cross, and a flag of Vatican City. 9 out of 10 T-shirts he wears are from the Marine corps or about Catholicism. He wears this "Iraqi Freedom" t-shirts and they look like they are shirts for "Call of Duty 4" video game. It's fucking unreal!
He opened up to me one day about politics when I criticized people wearing Obamas face on T-shirts. I just said "thats fucking weird" and I guess he felt I was a republican and he pretty much started telling me how he's a conservative and a republican bla bla bla.. I was like "uh dude, if you only knew." hahaha :laugh:
I mind my politics around him. It's not productive or wise to even bother with him. So I don't. On several cases he debates this girl I work with about same-sex marriage. With this whole swine flu bullshit He tried to get me into a political discussion on how he feels we should close the border. I am Mexican! This guy is Mexican-American, He looks more Mexican than I do! ok? And he refers to immigrants as illegals, and is talking about closing the border. ITS FUCKING INSANE! I've never heard a person that looks like me talk like that. Usually it's Lou Dubbs or some ignorant/minuteman racist white guy talking like this.
I've started to become a bit irrate about his parading around work of his Pope Benedict T-shirts and his flashy "iraqi freedom" apparel. That I started to think I should start rocking some of my leftist t-shirts haha. and Even having up a photo of Ho Chi Minh or some shit.
he really fucked me up when I made a comment about not being a U.S. citizen. "I'm taking my test in the fall." I said and he started to fucking quiz me on american history and super ultra nerdy American stuff, like trick questions and shit., I felt like I was being tested and if I fail I would get deported, it was awkward and uncomfortable.
what would you guys do? In general he's a nice guy as far as work comes. He obviously doesn't know my politics as to why he tries to engage in political discussion with me as if I relate to him, I'm trying to distant my self from this guy and just keep it work related. What would you guys do?
