Ok, well I assumed these weren't Holden's own photos but rather just stuff he found on other websites and reposted here (so he wouldn't know the context if you asked). That's why i found it problematic, if he knows the context and can clear that up then that's fine.

K, so i checked the image url's and they're all from http://www.picturesofwalls.com. So no, i doubt Holden has any knowledge of the context (unless of course he was the one who submitted the image in the first place, long-shot).

I agree, but the posters who asked him "what's with the fuck homosexuals thing" asked in a manner that implied Holden might have posted the photo for homophobic reasons. Which is not what I would expect of him - he probably just thought the same as me when he saw the pic.

We'll probably never find out who really wrote it and what they meant by it, so I guess... let's just leave it at that.

Sorry I forgot to mention I'm such a massive homphobe, whoops.

I assued the "fuck homosexuals" was ironic, partly due to the way i read it myself and partly due to the website i found it on not being 'like that'.

But yes in hind sight that could be seen as being homphobic, delete it if you want, but I still think it's pretty fucking funny.

There is a real specific story, which involves the nations of Ladonia, Sweden, the Vatican, America and Pakistan, as well as a (probably) mildly insane Swedish artisan with the name of Lars Vilks.

In 1986, Vilks erected a monument in a natural protection area for birds on an island outside of western Sweden. The authorities disliked it, so they started a process. During that time, Vilks built more illegal monuments in the same area, provoking new processes.

In 1996, he was ordered to demolish his monuments and to pay an enormous fee. He refused, and declared the area an own micronation - Ladonia.

Then, he started to invite other artists and generally hippies to become Ladonian citizens. They were not actually living in Ladonia, but they created an art project which dragged out through time.

In 2001, the municipality actually destroyed one of his monuments. Because of that, Ladonia declared war upon Sweden, the USA and the Vatican, and actually annexed some square inches of the Vatican.

Ladonia put up a homepage like a real country, promising everyone citizenship there. Thousands of people, mostly from Pakistan, applied for citizenship in the false belief that Ladonia was a real country.

It was and is an extreme drama.

And, what looks like a ruin is actually one of his artworks.

This thread has inspired me to do some mostly harmless "vandalism" of my own. I wrote and drew on a bunch of little pieces of paper and taped them all over my neighborhood. These included:
-10 or so Jack Handey quoes
-A large "42"
-This picture: http://www.marxist.com/images/stories/capitalism.gif
-A drawing of a hand giving a vulcan salute
and several others. Unfortunately, I have no pictures now, but I hopefully will soon.

Got to find a place too, the City I live in is almost covered in it, most of it being Tags and stuff from kids, remember doing some myself with Warhammer paint, which most of the time just came off in the rain.

Hardware store? I wonder if it's possible to get stencils and not have to make them, I think my Cutting is worse than my Handwriting :(

The longest recorded piece of graffiti was painted by a student in the toilets of his college at Changsha, China in 1915. It consisted of over 4000 characters criticizing his teachers and the state of Chinese society.
After completing this masterpiece the student handed himself in and was paraded in front of the school and threatened with expulsion. The student was a 22 year old Chairman Mao Zedong. A graffiti artist who later founded the People’s Republic of China and was responsible for the deaths of over 30 million people.
People often negelect to mention how many millions of people Mao's policies saved. If the deaths caused by China's economic and policital policies are to be blamed on him, then the lives saved by PRC's policies should be attributed to him as well.

By the way, I'm loving this thread.

About 3 years ago I was in my hometown in China. I went at night and spray-painted "superstition is revolting" on the newly painted wall around a rather famous Buddhist temple. It was the talk of the town for a few days, but it was rather embarrassing; everyone thought some small kid wrote it because my handwritting in Chinese was so bad and I was so drunk.

Banksy's graffiti of the 2 male coppers snogging has also a protected case over it too. Graffiti in Brighton is pretty common, and there doesn't appear to be anyone against it. Win.
