Given that football is the people's game I just wondered if people knew any famous revolutionairies adn which team they followed. Were they glory hunters, or did they follow their local team etc.

I'll start it off.

Bobby Sands MP. Supported Aston Villa.

I heard James Connolly was a big supporter of Hibernian, perhaps an Irish or Scottish comrade could confirm or deny this. Paul Robeson was an All-American (American) football player for Rutgers (yeah NJ!), and he was a varsity player in other sports during his time there. That's all I can think of for now.

Bobby Sands MP. Supported Aston Villa. No shit!? Wow (Wells with local pride!!:)), I picked the correct team!-Definitly beats the total shame of sharing a team with Mr Cameron.

I know a lot of republicans who follow Aston Villa. I'm not sure why

here's a tribute to Villa in the Irish language (Gaeilge)

Yeah that comes from the time when there was mass Irish Emigration into England for Work. My friend is a Villa fan and also a republican. Picked this up from his time working in the building sites in Birmingham. Also the European Cup must have helped. My dad was a Portsmouth fan from his time there.

I also believe George Orwell was a Wigan FC fan. Also I think its worth reading up on a Former Belfast Celtic Player Paddy O Connell who managed Barcelona.
