in film class we generally watch two different movies from each film genre (categroy- horror, comedy, sci fi, action etc etc) then we write a paper or do a live presentation, giving a critique on one of the two movies.

In this particular case we have to write our own horror movie. I already made one with a script entirely in German. It is very funny and all but we messed up quite a few times. One of the most notable mistakes was that one of the german to english translaters said "beware it will show you no money" instead of "beware it will show you no MERCY" as you can tell there is quite a difference between the two. I wish I could download the video on the internet but I don't think I could. It is really very funny.

But I have recently discovered an excellent invention, dv editing software. I know nothing about it at the moment but I intend on learning all I can about it as you can make subtitles and dub over as well as adding in your own music as well. It is quite a nifty little invention however I have heard that it will cost much bourgeoisie capital. but I am willing to pay up. This reminds me, if anyone knows about dv editing, please let me know.

Am I correct in assuming that you can not use an 8 millimeter camera to do the dv editing?

second question: how do I download the final edited copy back on to the camera?

third question: do you recognize a "firewire" ? my friend was telling me about this.

#1 no you cannot use an 8mm cammera, unless you have the fancy software...

#2 you download the final edited copy on to the camera, by connecting the firewire to the computer again, and uploading it back onto the camera. Exactly the same way you put it on the computer in other words.

#3 A Firewire is the cable that you plug the camera into the computer with. It plugs into the usb port on the back of your computer, the only way really to recognise it is by having a look at one. but they are really just a cable, normmaly black or silver, with a little box on it, near the camera end of the cable.

I am using a sharp vi-z150. At least I believe the model number is something like that.

Do you know where I can find a firewire? I am having the hardest time trying to find one. They don't have them at frys or best buy and I can not find it anywhere on the internet.

And also, what movie editing software do you recomend? my friend said pinacle v7 but they only had pinacle v.8 and that is a bit more Bourgeoisie pocket change than I am willing to spend. I was trying to find something along the lines of 50 bucks or so.

and last, just a confirmation question. Since you can upload the video back onto the camera, you can get it onto vhs, right? Bottom line is I need to edit my movie and spew it back out onto vhs and not those expensive cd movies. A lot of the software I was looking at said that it could make the cd movies (dvd's I believe they're called) but I need vhs. Any software will pretty much work for vhs though, right?

I am probably making this harder on myself than I need it to be but I don't want to buy 100 dollars worth of equipment for nothing. lol

Umm, your in America right?? i couldnt tell you where to get them there if you are, but we got ours from a normal electrical appliances store... you know one that sells all you cd players, cameras video cameras tvs and such. They cost about £30 if i remeber rightly. quite expensive for a cable. We found it really easy to get one.

sharp vi-z150, i cant remember what we use, i had it written down on a piece of paper but i forgot now! lol. Ill find out tomorow. Same goes for edditting software... ive used a couple of prgrammes, and there is one i prefer, but i cant remeber exactly what its called and i dont wanna be giving false info lol.

It really easy to get it onto vhs, you just connect it up to a vcr, put in a video press record, then play on you camera and bobs you uncle! lol

umm, tomworow or monday ill try and find out what the programme is and how much.

Im getting to do this for my work experience :)

our film is looking good... well what ive seen of it... i dont actually know the plot, cos i aint bothered reading the script as im only actually in one scene... but me and gee are doing editting (more her than me at the moment, damn exams!) so yea, im reading the script to make sure there are no fuck ups.... but to keep our budget to the minimum, its in a very strange order, so im not really reading it, just looking at the lines and seeing whether they are right in the editted bit. or at least sound half decent. So if you want to knwo what its aout youll have to wait til December, when itll be finished and i can see the premier in our local cinema :)

Tis well cool... Gee and Ben from our group are writing another film... and i might possibly getting an acting part this time , yay! instead of just tech stuff and a small part!
