View Full Version : Newswire Survey

So I'm one of the mods of Newswire and that shit doesn't seem to get enough views. I'm here to figure out why. So, if you lot could answer these questions (in this thread or in PM, I suppose), it'd help me out a bit in figuring out how to herd you cats to the Newswire.
1. How often (specify per week, or per day, or whatever applies) do you visit the Newswire?
2. If you visit the Newswire rarely, why?
General comments and suggestions are also welcome.
I'd like a ticker please. In actual fact, when the newswire feeds come up on the New Posts page I tend to purposely skim down past the ones that start with [A Info] because they come in a large block at once. I say news ticker is the way to go. I read them occasionally, but maybe once every couple of days.
PS: I just gave him an avatar. Rep if you can name that robot.

Just in case you don't know
I wish i could rep that so badly.
Oh! Actually, now that I think about it, I'm working on a bot (he works on another server, not our own) That could pump in newswire feeds to irc! I forgot about that.

On a similar note, I am working on a bot that puts holes in levees and dams when it rains.
i dont think i have ever looked at it cos i get alot of news from articles posted in the revleft forums, libcom, indymedia, word of mouth, bbc etc

Wow, I thought the newswire mods were just there for show.
Never could find the damn thing I wanted to post in there a few times.

1) We are
2) You know where it is now
3) member posting is disabled. newsbot only. members post in the articles section.

Okay well here's what i think.
Firstly, a lot of the news items have loads of weird code at the start, that needs to be gotten rid of if possible.
The top 30 should have numbers and if possible could be ordered in the amount of hits they receive.
Perhaps a weekly poll news item in which people vote on the news story with the most hits.
The layout is a bit of an eye sore to be frank, a splash of colour would be nice if possible. Maybe pictures which apply to the actual story instead of a picture of a newspaper.
I don't really know if any of this is possible but heh.

1. I did twice, because someone mentioned it. First time i was like 'whats that?' second time i was like 'uhm, i forgot where it was'. And it's mostly lame news with 1 or 2 views >_>.
2. Because i don't think about it due to it's positioning (most important reason), and the news is often un-interesting
I dont visit it, in the new posts thing i just get over them, i only checked some times with some greek articles, maybe one every month but thats about it:p

1. Never
2. I got to other sites for news.

You do realise I mean link to newbots pages and not directly to external ones, right?
