Because he's awful. I've been scrolling up and down youtube on Working Class Hero. Best cover is the Manics, although Cyndi Lauper was quite good. Plus I was relieved at the absence of Billy Bragg. Does anyone on here like him? He's like that crap folk singer at a pub.

Marianne Faithful did a good cover - it's on her Broken English album.
I didn't know Cyndi Lauper covered it - what album? I like Cyndi.

BIlly Bragg is one of the best people I have ever seen live.
His kit had been lost, so all he had was an accustic guitar and he was fucking mint.
As for bad singling, none of the best vocalists have what is traditionally through of as great voices.
The people here who don't like Billy Bragg fail, on every level.

Yea there's not having a conventional voice, like Morrisey; and then there's not being able to carry a tune in a lorry. He sings like a 13-y-o boy whose balls just dropped

Billy Bragg's voice isn't that bad, and I guess you should listen to the likes of Bob Dylan and Jimmy Hendrix who forged highly celebrated careers as singers despite having dreadful voices. The fact of the matter is singing like a tom cat with its arse sowed up has never been a major obstacle to making great music.

Erm, except politically. Unless lionising the protest songs of Labour Party loyalists is your bag.

Bob Dylan was a gifted lyricist, and I don't have to justify Hendrix's place on the mount. Billy Bragg wouldn't be so bad if he wasn't a dreadful lyricist as well as a singer. And a pompous ****

Certainly Bob has had moments of brilliance, and has written some great lyrics, btu he has also written a lot of shit.
Billy Bragg wouldn't be so bad if he wasn't a dreadful lyricist as well as a singer. Some of his lyrics are quite clever.
And as for pompus ****s, you're a smiths fan aren't you?
i'm torn on him
he's done some good things but lately his politics have just gone to shits

Dude, Morrissey has written a song called 'I have forgiven Jesus' and pretty much constantly lectures his fans about the merits of being a vegitarian.
He is the most sanctimonious man in music, save perhaps Noel Gallagher, I love the guy to bits but he is undoubtedly a complete prat.

I prefer the Redskins cover of 'Levi Stubbs Tears'. I'll have to upload the video to YouTube someday. But you can hear the cover over on MySpace - http://www.myspace.com/redskinsunofficial
