Yes, the famous movie director is a cult follower of a german nazi new age charlatan;

This was really funny. Lynch is apparently touring the world, last weekend he visited Iceland and held a meditation seminar.

His films are pretty good though.

No you've got it all wrong. Lynch had no idea what this guy was saying, he couldn't speak German. Lynch is one of my favourite directors and I've already seen the video. He didn't have a clue what the guy was saying.

Bakunin-Kropotkin you are in denial. Even when he got it translated for him he still defended the moron.

According to that link, Lynch replied here: http://nosedef.blogspot.com/2007/11/david-lynch-replies.html.

I'll be honest with you, I'm not really sure either way at the moment. It just really does not seem like he would be involved with stuff like that though.

According to that comment on his reply there, his thing is: http://www.wikileaks.org/wiki/Transcendental_Meditation_Governor_Recertification _Course_Overview_of_Policies_and_Procedures%2C_May _2005. Sounds more like a whackjob scientology thing than Nazism tb, that odd occultist meditation shit doesn't surprise me coming from Lynch.

Having watched the video, it really doesn't seem like he has any idea what the german guy is saying at all. Honestly, Lynch has his head shoved so far up his arse he doesn't even bother to ask what he said in German.

So your saying Lynch is a Nazi. Anyway, libsoc seems to have debunked those claims in his last post.

Lynch said this afterwards:
"Dynamic peace is not just the absence of war—it is the absence of negativity, which is the seeds of war. These universities, established on a permanent basis, will put an end to thousands of years of war and oppression, and prevent a man like Hitler from ever arising again."

I said he followed a nazi new age charlatan and was apologetic for him. But that is not the same as saying he himself is a full nazi. At least I understand it that way.

It still reflects badly on David. And his inherently unrealistic spiritual and idealistic position against war in general isn't making him any better in my opinion. It is still thoroughly reactionary whatever way you look at it.

Lynch being a right-winger is old news. Lynch flirting with new-age and fascism doesn't surprise me in the least. I still love some of his work though.

I really don't think that video is an indictment (other than being a new age nutjob, but not a fascist).

He doesn't speak German, and there is no way to tell what was said to him. Obviously the only phrase he really got was "invincible germany" which means something non-fascist in his new wave junk.

He came off as a bufoon, but there is no way one could say he heard the hitler/most disparaging comments made.

Agreed. It was a mistake. But I feel he is just misguided. I think he truly feels he is doing good. I'm telling you Lynch would love Anarchism if you told him what it was.

Lynch really isn't right wing. I know this doesn't make him any less of a reactionary but he really is more of a liberal. I hate this when we talk about the politics of artists. I just try to avoid it cos it just makes me love their work less.

The guy should spend less time flirting with such pseudo-religious bullshit and concentrate on making a coherent movie for once.

I used to work as a publicist, and I will tell you, whomever his publicist is, should have been fired right away if he/she didnt research the line up. There is no way Lynch didnt know who was on the lineup. That shit just doesnt happen as a fluke.

I think he was aware of who was to speak before and after him, at the least and if thats the case, he is an apologist. Quite frankly, I think Lynch has lost his fucking mind.

After watching the video, I agree with this. I don't think he is into fascism, though - he's probably just "thinking outside of the box" or some shit like that.

It applies to every film he's made since Wild At Heart, apart from The Straight Story.

Well he directed Dune, which is actually the only movie of his that I have seen. There seemed to be a lack of diversity for a film that takes place 20,000 years in the future. I haven't read the book, so I don't know how the characters are described, though. But 20,000 years in the future it seems like there should be a more diverse group of people.

I find he got better with age. I like Eraserhead and Blue Velvet, but Lost Highway, Mullholland Drive, and Inland Empire are the real deal.

I think he peaked with Twin Peaks. It's been a steady decline into dementia ever since.

I find his newer movies much more emotionally intense. I don't think I've ever seen a scarier, more nightmarish movie than Inland Empire - it just seems to push all my fear buttons.

His older stuff I can appreciate, but it doesn't have such a strong effect on me as Lost Highway and after.

Edit: The scene in Inland Empire, for instance, where the main female character is being filmed on a movie set and suddenly turns away and says "this isn't a movie, this is really happening"... I get the chills just thinking of it.
