Lyricist with metaphors, punchlines, flow, deep lyrics - the whole package. Why are people sleeping on LAURYN HILL? It's not like she's unknown either. Is is cuz she's female? or cuz she sings soul music too, and not just rap? Whyyy!?!

Here's 3 reasons why yall better have her in your top 10

DO YOU LIKE THE WAY

Watch the Masta Plan
The pastures span
Through the streets
Flipped the beat
Move the sheep
like the Shepard
It's a new day
My crew stay
Forever striving
Give thanks cuz we alive
and been through the gutter
Now we see the Horizon
It's clear to me now
Used to be confused
Took a lotta years to see how
Now, we movin planets
Take the average mind and expand it
You take for granted
Like we're always gonna be disadvantaged
But soon come
It soon come
Ya soon done
Ya start run
You stumble
We catch one
In the rhythm
Santana lick the guits with precision
Not accidental
Intentional
Concious decision
To Zion
We're marching through with African Mayans
Conquering Babylon with the hart of a lion
Behold to watch yesterday come back around
And the walls of Jericho come tumbleing down

HIP-HOPERA

Why you gwan
Watch out for Babylon
MC's babble on and on
I phenom
Bomb like Ethiopians
Not Italions
Queen Asheba
Balance like a Libra
Rain like meteor storms
That change forms
like the pillars of Islom
Make the best rule
And fuck the rest who'll
It takes one drop of purity to clean the cess pool
The next school
will be comprised of kings and queens wearing crowns and holiday scepters
Facing Mecca, making records
Raiding bibliotechas
I sip nectars with the Gods, in the street apparel
Keep the path straight and narrow
while we bombin of Pharaoh
so
Bounty Killer pour the sorrel
Let's make plans for tomorrow

EVERYTHING IS EVERYTHING

I philosophy
Possibly
Speak tongues
Beat drum
Abyssinian
street Baptist
Rap this in fine linen
From the beginnin
My practice
Extendin across the atlas
I begat this
Flippin in the ghetto on a dirty mattress
You can't match this
Rapper slash actress
More powerful than 2 Cleopatras
Bomb graffiti
On the tomb of Nefertiti
MCs ain't ready
To take it to the Serengeti
My rhymes is heavy
Like the mind of sister Betty
L-Boogie spars with stars
And constellations
Then came down for a little conversation
Adjacent to the king
Fear no human being
Roll with cherubims
to Nassau Coliseum
Now hear this mixture
Where Hiphop meets scripture
Develop a negative into a positive picture

Being a racist doesn't help her rep.

im kind of mad at her because i went to a concert, which was supposed to have her, the roots, outkast, and jurassic 5, and she didnt show up! she played the night before, but didnt play that night. i really wanted to see her too. oh well, she still has put out some of the best stuff in the last few years.

She have never made any racist comments on records or anywhere else recorded. I thought people on these boards would be more media critical than others. DONT BELIEVE EVERYTHING YOU HEAR!

yeah Absteact... i hope you catch her someother time though!

oh and that DJ Scribble track...Keep It Tight feat/Lauryn Hill....TIGHT ass song!

I have never seen or heard her deny the allegations about her making racist comments.

By loco is i mean she had that breakdown and shit when her man left her.

She's still tight but a little odd in the head

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't she say something along the lines of... "I would rather have 100 black men die then have a white man buy my music." I'm not sure but I remember hearing about her saying something like that.

Phthhhh. I wanted to know if she had said that, I didn't want to hear your half-assed opinion about The Coup, or whatever you are trying to say to appear smart, I wanted someone to verify what I had heard. If you want to play Mr. Smartass go down to Best Buy and go bother some Nelly heads.

Oh and Lauryn Hill appeals to a very WIDE audience, all over the place. She's very popular, and to say you would rather have 100 black people die then to have one white person buy your album is extremely self centered and hipocritical. What is she mad that white people discriminated against her ancestors long before her? Or maybe she was discriminated against sometime in her lifetime. Countering with more racism isn't going to help at all.

So she appeals to a wide auidience she shouldn't have to compromise her beliefs because she is famous.

If thats what she wants to say let her say it

do I agree with it no, but I mean just cuz she appeals to many people doesn't mean she can't be herself.

If more people heard that would she probably never get a job again, yeah?

but Luaryn is a big girl she can make her own decision.

I mean look the Coup I'm sure some rich suburban child of a CEO likes them

but does that mean they aren't gonna say what they need to say?

esides I like the Coup

"Believe none of what you hear and half of what you see"

Hehe, good looking out! I was just gonna post that link! It's rediculus that people believe shit they never heard Lauryn Hill say herself.

"You know, everybody has to be really careful. You know, what they read and hear. Cuz you never know what's true. You know, a couple of years ago some kid had heard that I had said I didn't want white people to buy my record. And that really, really hurt me a great deal, because I think my music is really universal, you know. I've been everywhere and I have fans everywhere. But because of some rumor, that you know, some radio personality chose to, you know, say on his radio show. He had a bunch of people believeing something thay never seen or heard themselves. They just heard a rumor" ... "There were a lot of people that I thought, you know, that we had related. And all of a sudden, they thought they couldn't relate to me at all. And I found that people tried to misconstrue the things that I've said, and make them sound, you know, like I had some sort of racist thoughts. You know, they were really hurting comments for me, cuz you know, I'm a really universal person and I think that our differences are what makes us dope". - Lauryn on MTV Revue
