i'm getting tired of some of my cd's. does anyone know of any cool underrated cd's that would actually be worth buying? please try not to suggest anything too popular (ie RATM, SOAD). i'm thinking of something heavy not neccesarily with political motives....many thanks!

Herbie Hanock (electro-jazz), US3 (hiphop-jazz), Mo' Friction (funk/soul), o(+> (the album Prince and the New Power Generation highly recommended), any CD from the Pulp Fusion series (funk, fusion, soul), Jimi Hendrix, Bugge Wesseltoft (Electro-jazz, my mom marred his father once)

For metal (since you asked for that specifically):
Motorhead-Ace of Spades
Metallica-Ride the Lightning

I can also recommend a lot of Skinhead (and some punk) stuff

Sepultura(Chaos AD, Against, Nation), Thy Serpent, Cannibal Corpse, New Model Army... Thats all I can think of now.

Thats Death/Black Metal, btw, except New Model Atmy. So if you don't like that, don't buy it.

I don;t know where you live so i don't know if you can get it, but look for Sonic Excess, it's a complitation of various artists on Earache Records and it will only cost you a quid or two, I got it for £2 in the virgin store in Camden.

It's got loads fo stuff on it, 18 tracks I think from loads of artists, ranging form The Dillinger Escape Plan, to Mortiis to The Berzerker.

If you want a change from Metal, and all "popular" music, try Mediaeval Baebes, they are awesome, also Adiemus cd's by Karl Jenkins.

Please, do not call Andrew W.K. "heavy." He (or at least his music, I've never met the guy) is shite! It is all the same, poppy crap.

Get anything by Soulfly. The latest one I prefer, but the previous ones will do well also.

Damn it, LeninCCCP, you beat me to it. I was going to say Andrew WK. Oh well, we've got a lot of people in here with the strange mental illness that prevents them from enjoying the greatness that is Andrew WK. I really am very sorry for these poor sad souls. I can't help but have pity.

GR mentioned Irony is a Dead Scene. Also another great album. But I think higher on the list of essential albums would have to be "Disco Volante" and "California" by Mr. Bungle. Two of the greatest CDs ever made.

While we're at it, Ipecac records has a little band called Skeleton Key with an album called "Obtainium" which definitely kicks ass.

I also recommend pretty much anything by King Crimson.

hmmm... i think i'll download some dillinger escape plan today to see if i like them...
they covered aphex twin's 'come to daddy' on that ep.... so i suppose that's already a plus...

i got belle and sebastian's 'if you're feeling sinister' yesterday... it's not heavy, but if you like nick drake, simon and garfunkel or whatever, then give it a listen...

;-)

From what I know of your music tastes, I'd say you hate them. Still, give it a go.

Ah yes...that's a great track. Really comes into its own live.

This goes for anyone who reads this:
Buy any and every Dillinger Four album. Yes, they are a punk band, but a wholly original one. Energetic, punchy, melodic, and thoughtful are just a few words. Seriously, buy their shit. They also have a sense of humor, which seems to be lacking around here. Also, Propaghandi, and Bad Religion. And yes, RATM did kick ass.
