is there any event that the left or any non-political organization organize to remember the people who died under horrible banner of totalitarism?

personally, we should have 1 day in the year to take a time and remember how high the death toll that caused and still cause totalitarism all over the world.

I would love to play it!

Stalin! Arise from your grave!
Stalin! It is the darkest hour!
Stalin! Capitalism is our bane!
Stalin! Arise and give us power!

GLASNOST is OVER! Prepare for TOTALNOST, komrades!

COMING SOON! "TOTALITARIZM" - new turn-based strategy/RPG game about Russian Crusade against Global Capitalism! (made by... yes, by interrupt_00h)

They never been stronger. Never been bolder. Never more ruthless... until now!

January 2005. Group of national-bolshevik hackers resurrect virtual matrix of Joseph Stalin's identity and transplant it to new body, creating uberdictator Mig Kalashnikov. Now their Great Leader is back and nothing can stop them! Their work is finished, but yours is only just beginning. You are uberdictator's right hand. You are an instrument of communist justice, enemy of capitalism and democracy. You are General Secretary. And today you have LOTS of work to do!

Firstly, as leader of Russian Revolutionary Militsiya, take Moscow, storm Kremlin and kill Putin for his crimes against Motherland. Fearing of resurrection of Soviet Empire, sworn enemies of communism, Amerinazis, nuked Moscow and bombed Russia to stone age. Take command of last remaining Russian forces and plant nuclear mines all across the globe. Now you can turn Earth into asteroid belt with a push of a button, and Amerinazis won't dare attack you.

Now you are ready to rebuild Soviet Empire. You control Soviet Power through six branches of Party (RedArmy, Militsia, KGB, NKVD, SovTek, SovProm). Each branch is ruled by one of six narkoms. One of narkoms is enemy of people, but you don't know which one exactly. If you find traitor and kill him, job would be easier (of course, you can kill all narkoms if you are paranoid enough). What is your job, you ask? World Revolution of course! Rebuild the Soviet Empire "persuading" ex-USSR states to join your glorious course. Kill all enemies of people you find. Build up military industry using secret Soviet technologies. Re-animate Lenin. And then, when you are ready, bring Western Civilization to its knees and turn America into desert with nukes and tank tracks!

Heroism of Russian soldiers and cowardice of enemies of people, wisdom of Party and cruelty of KGB, secret Soviet technologies, authentic russian voices, propaganda posters and communist marches (from old traditional ones like "Sing to the Motherland!" and "Last fight let us face - communism unites the human race!" to newest ones like "Stalin, arise from your grave!" and "Russians don't surrender!") - you will experience everything in this game!

If you are a communist, if you are fan of Stain (whose cyber-spirit guides player throughout the game), if you are interested in Russian history or just like politically incorrect jokes, this game is for YOU!!! Stay tuned!

please explain.I think there does not need to be any mourning day for victims of historical totalitarianism as such. Capitalism is already killing so many people everyday in the present, that in case there is a mourning day, it should include those caused by the present capitalist countries too.

I didn't mean to be offensive, actually. Sorry if that was so.

Here in Canada or at least in my province anyway we have a day where we mourn the deaths of workers who died on the job. It was just a few days ago. It just comes to show that many people are risking their lives everyday doing dangerous work, many of them probably not by choice. Of course Capitalism creates these conditions where you have to accept any kind of work simply so you can afford to keep food in your belly and a roof over your head.

I absolutely love this idea! It's cheesy and kitschy, but so was Red Alert 2 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Command_%26_Conquer:_Red_Alert_2). The conquering territory and supertechnology aspects remind me of Shattered Union (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shattered_Union), except with all the dials turned up to 11.

This conflates a political system w/ a economic system. AFAIK the term "totalitarian" was coined in 1923 by Giovanni Amendola who criticized Italian fascism as a system fundamentally different from other dictatorships.

IMO it's disingenuous to speak of economic systems causing death; per that language all economic systems cause death.

Anarchists don't have to be ashamed of something they had nothing to do with, maybe leninist organizations have to clean up their history a bit.

that's my main argument against him, it one thing to be killed in an accident at work that can happen everywhere for every reason but to be killed in cold blood by a person whose suppose to protect you and give you your deserved "freedom" that requires a government

But a government isn't supposed to protect you or you freedom, its there for the benefit of the capitalists not us.

beccause totalitarism itself is dangerous, people should remember what happen wheny ou give that much power intot eh hand of a fews peoples.

plus, it could indirrectly make people think about capitalism evilness.

i also think that those executed people earn at least 1 minute of silence a year.

Totalitarianism isn't neccessary Capitalist. Fascist regimes are totalitarian. There has even been totalitarian attempts at Socialism such as the Khmer Rouge which executed thousands.

Any anti-totalitarianism day organised by capitalists would likely class anything anti-capitalist as "totalitarian". I don't think this EU thing is to be celebrated.

If you read it it's a suggestion for a day for the victims of totalitarianism, not totalitarianism it's self.

Its pointless, no ones goig to make the connection to Capitalism, also for the most part, overt totalitarianism is not viewed in a positive light anyway, so really its just kind of a politicians wank.

All it is, is a pointless symbolic gesture, and a way for politicians to make points and redbait.

Well we're supposed to give dead soldiers a moment of silence on Remembrance day. It would probably be the same kind of thing despite how silly it may be.
