View Full Version : The Strokes - Saviours of Rock n Roll

This is the best rock and roll band to come out of the states for a while. Their album "Is This It" is definitely a classic with not one single dull song. Music and vocals are outstanding and this New York City band will surely dominate charts for years to come. I can't wait for them to complete their second album however i'm fearful it won't be as good as their first. Their first album is already better then Oasis's first and that is telling you something. This band rocks!!!!!

I cannot emphasise how much I hate The Strokes. They are the worst band since Shed Seven.

Music made by and for, trendy, crazysexycool materialistic fashion designers.

The Emperor's New fuckin Clothes.

Media darlings with their perfect tousled and ruffled retro pseudo-70s look.

And self-proclaimed "punks"??? Fuck off.

Dull songs...part Ramones rip off, part Oasis rip off.

In short, they are the worst thing to happen to rock n roll since its inceptions. If they split tomorrow, I would be the happiest man alive.

You get called El Generalissimo...

Seriously, if you're claiming I post for the sake of it, then your claim is totally unjustified.

The strokes suck dude they are drug addicts who cant sing or play no offense of course but they wont "tear" up the charts just wont happen.

I'm sorry but i disagree. This band totally rocks. I don't know much about band members and if they are materialistic or whatever, their music rocks. Guerrilaradio, have you heard songs like last nite, trying your luck, when it started, soma, etc? I think they are great. Media darlings? Hardly, they have like no interviews, don't publise songs and stuff. Media likes them cause they realise they are good.

Too poppy man. The VINES are far superior if your into new indie-punk. Though Im personally more into older indie-goth or indie-punk groups like Siouixe & The Banshees.

Dan Majerle

Vines? To tell you the truth i've only heard one of their songs, "Get Free" and it reminds me to much of AC/DC which is not good.

I've heard the entire album and Last Nite's been on the UK digital playlists for the last year or so.

Media darlings? Hardly, they have like no interviews, don't publise songs and stuff.

You gotta be fuckin kidding me. In the UK, they've been on the music magazine covers almost weekly (I swear, NME haven't gone a week without eulogising them at least four times), and all over MTV, doing interviews and shit. Everywhere, there's the fucking Strokes self-publicising. They're about as punk rock as Avril fucking Lavigne...actually, no, Avril is more punk. At least she's not scared to create a reaction.

I fucking hate The Strokes. Nuff said.

Well, they have obvious influences, whats wrong with that? Don't ALL bands have obvious influences. "Get Free" does not sound too much like AC/DC, all of their music is influenced by grunge, rocknroll and punk groups.

btw: AC/DC is the fuckin shit.

. . . Door rip offs.

Seriously, how are the rip offs of The Doors?

In the U$, there is almost no media attention from them, where even in the VMAs, they gave them about two minutes to speak.

I still have to listen to more of them to make a decision on how good they are, though.

You still don't get it?? It really is quite simple. By attacking his effeminacy, you are claiming that all men should be macho, which is an outmoded and conservative concept. Fortunately it was killed by David Bowie etc in the glam rock era and is now only held by granddads and idiot conservatives, such as yourself. Understand now??

I exposed your hypocrisy and all you can say is "fucking moron"

LOL...no hypocrisy whatsoever. Look at that thread again, and then look up hypocrisy in a dictionary. Christ...

Sadly the Strokes are NOT good in concert at all. It was a massive dissappointment......if you wanna see em in concert all you have to do is put on flashing colored lights in your room and listen to the CD, and pin up a photo of em......

All they do is stand there, and they dont seem very thrilled do be doing what they are doing......i guess being blah is what cool people do ;)

Was Kurt Cobain macho?

Who the fuck mentioned Kurt Cobain??

mujer revolucionaria
8th October 2002, 13:57
I saw The Strokes in Detroit at some place called Clutch Cargo's (actually it was in Pontiac) that is this cool club which was converted from an old church. A group of my friends and I drove there for that show from St Louis (yeah 600 miles each way.....call us crazy)

They played with The White Stripes (who blew them out of the water)

I dont hate the Strokes, but they arent my favorite either.....after seeing them live I actually liked them less, it was THAT dissappointing. Though a couple of my friends really enjoyed their set.

Mazdak
8th October 2002, 22:28
You are just saying, "I like singer who are macho" (not in those words, but pretty damn close). Now i dont consider Cobain macho, and he is probably one of my favorite singers. John Denver was great too.

But he didn't sing "like a girl"...

Mazdak
9th October 2002, 23:09
Yeah, and i dont "go for" that kind of thing. If you want a singer that sings like a girl, just get a girl.

Kurt didnt sing like a girl, and he didnt sing macho, he sung high.

I was making a simple criticism about a band you DIDNT even like, yet somehow you defended them as if i had declared i wanted them to face the death penalty!

Now you say the strokes suck and i dont say anything against this. That is hypocrisy

I criticize NFW for ruining punk, you criticize the strokes for being preppy pieces of shit. How come i cant criticize New Found Glory? You think it is because i have something against gays or something? I was only stating my opinion, and i didnt expect you to agree, but you turned it into an argument.

Thats all for me.

I still do not understand how you can say The Strokes are The Doors rip-offs.

Dan Majerle
14th October 2002, 12:38
The doors can good in their own right however the Strokes are just something else. Their music is brilliant without being in your face, loud, crude and heavy. It is rock and roll with meaning and an inner voice that can be heard above the smashing of drums and the fanatical playing of guitar. Strokes have nice tunes, lyrics and meanings in their songs.

Alejandro C
17th October 2002, 19:56
Man, i saw the strokes in concert last fucking night. Let me tell all of you non-believers out there, if you love rock and roll, you'll love the strokes. As for them not being good in concert, you should have seen them last night. Rare form. The lead singer was so fucking drunk that we had to wait 45 min for them to come out in order to sober him up. Needless to say he came out stumbled around, made some slurred lurid comments and rocked my fucking socks off. It was great. Another thing everyone i know that says they hate the strokes are hating them because of the people that like them. I know three people that have said they hate the strokes because their roomate or their friend plays 'last nite' all the time. This is just more bullshit from you people who like to think that you're better than everyone else so you pick on a popular group. Enuff said.

One last thing. The Doors are way fucking better than the strokes. no contest. Although, funny that they were both mentioned because last night i was actually thinking that julian ( the singer) reminded me a lot of Morrison. his drunkenes. his manerisms. the way he stood. not musically, but their was some resemblance that i can't put my finger on.

deadpool 52
20th October 2002, 03:06
If you take it that Morrison always got pissed drunk before every performance as their similarity, than I know about fifty Doors rip-offs.

The Strokes are great - but they are NOT a left-wing band!

In fact, the Australian version had a song called 'New York City Cops'. But after S-11, the Strokes wimped out and pulled the track off further albums (it contains a chorus with the line 'New York City Cops, they aren't too smart'.

Having said that, I think the album is brilliant. The Strokes only problem is how to top their debut release.

Man, Robert Plant sang totally like a girl, and I consider him to be the greatest rock voice of all time. (My opinion, of course.)

Listen to the Battle of Evermore, it's hard to distinguish him from the female he's singing with.

"Man, Robert Plant sang totally like a girl"

lol- so true- so does jj72 guy, and the bloke from the music. and the strokes are so not left wing (they met in a private school in switzerland)- but what does it matter? i dont care bout the political leanings (unless they sing bout shitting on jews or something). luckily for me though, my two favourtie bands are leftish wing- stone roses and primal scream (who are socialists, and made a song called bomb the pentagon. then it happened)
