I usually log on to this site from home, but i was at my local library in Tallaght in South Dublin and thought I would see what was new.

I was surprised to find that i couldn't log on as the site has been blocked by the local authorities for allegedly promoting racism and hate! In my short time here I have yet to come across any racism or hatred. Someone with an anti-left agenda has obviously complained about the site. I wonder if the library officials gave anyone at revleft the chance to comment on any such allegations. Or perhaps revleft would want to sue south dublin libraries for defamation.

Anyone concerned can e-mail South Dublin County Library in Tallaght from the following page http://libraries.southdublin.ie/index.php?option=com_contact&task=view&contact_id=93&Itemid=3

does the library use websense by any chance?

Revleft is blocked at my workplace under the same reason, it uses websense as it's filter program.

Interestingly enough, it's makers have attracted controversy for various reasons, including the blockage of non-pornagraphic sites for the gay community.

It's blocked everywhere in several countries under the prext of Racism and Hate.

Going to revleft.org worked for me.

i don't know what software they use, this is the URL that came up http://192.168.1.101:15871/cgi-bin/blockpage.cgi?ws-session=1560283655 (http://192.168.1.101:15871/cgi-bin/blockpage.cgi?ws-session=1560283655) if this means anything to anyone more technically minded than me. I tried typing it in to my computer at home, but it doesn't bring up anything.

Yeah that's websense. Fuck em, as was mentioned earlier, they block all kinds of things that would offend a good ol' christian nation.

Anyone know which gay sites are banned? i'll go down to the library tomorrow, try to log on to one, and when it is declined, i'll have a claim against the library for discrimination. :D

That's a local network address so it wouldn't give us anything. It'd be interesting if we could appeal this somehow given that the categorization as racist is blatantly unjust (although maybe they consider hatred against the ruling classes inappropriate in which case, guilty as charged). I'm skeptical if that's possible though given they are probably a private entity that sells a list of banned websites to consumers.

it might be hard to get to websense, but it is easy to get at public libraries that are bound by anti-discrimination legislation. May also be possible to get to employers, as long as you're not looking at anything at work that you shouldn't be!! Likewise, it would probably be easier to get them for the anti-gay thing, as hatred is perhaps a bit of a subjective concept (although i would still think that banning revleft is a breach of freedom of expression/political association provisions)

Amnesty international is blocked as an 'advocacy group'.

I'm sure the ones that make the news have since been lifted (I think this first came to light about 5 years ago) so I couldnt give you a definitive list, but I'm sure they play whack-a-mole with lots of sites.

the problem about complaining to any middle of the road body about revleft being blocked is that they will come back at you with their liberal shit about having to ''unblock nazi sites to make things fair''.

So yeah, i think their blatant homophobia is the thing to nail these fuckers with.

Perhaps it's blocked due to "hate and racism" towards Capitalism and Imperialism?

It is from Wikipedia, but hey it cant hurt to try to just complain:

In certain circumstances Websense's filter has mislabeled and blocked notable sites. In 2007 [URL="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norman_Finkelstein"]Norman Finkelstein (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Websense#cite_note-legal_info-17) and Noam Chomsky (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Noam_Chomsky)'s websites were blocked under 'racism/hate speech' category for approximately 24 hours until Finkelstein complained.[19] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Websense#cite_note-18) In 2009, Websense briefly classified router company Cisco (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cisco)'s website under 'hack sites'.[20] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Websense#cite_note-leyden-19) The blocking of cisco.com was solved in very short time, but it illustrates that the problem of false alarms is not restricted to antivirus software.[20] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Websense#cite_note-leyden-19)
