Thatcher. Money eating old soul-whore. But the problem today is people who don't understand - or want to understand - that she was a money-eating soul-whore. And Clearly not very good at maths either. Look at this simple equation: massively reduce employment (E) x massively reduce unemployment benefits (B) x massively reduce NHS spending (H).

If there are any economists who think they can solve this equation, please do

I think the economists with their priestly and pseudo-intellectual justifications of oppression and exploitation are the biggest scoundrels out there.

AH i voted media right off the bat without thinking. that is definitely what it is. Rapert Murderdoch(evil enough?) controlls so much of what the average American sees. it sickens me. and those who own the media are all accountable to the death of democracy in the united states.

It's only an expression, not a formula (no equal sign). Entirely impossible to solve.

The Businessman and the Media. its like a symbiotic relationship.

The business man needs to make money so he buys some ad space on media networks, papers, and billboards. They are peddeling meaningless propaganda(a product advertisement) idolizing products and values that are assisted by products.
The media in turn, stays alive my assisting this forcefeeding because Ad-space keeps them alive. Those with the control of the media also have the power to spin stories, and we all know FOX and many others are notorious for that.

The media is controlled by businessmen but if the media did not exist then business could have died. or to be more specific, advertisement free media would kill them.
The media is a medium for which the business man can sell ideology, products, and political messages. My local news network owned by NBC has a "will it work" feature where they test products to see if they really are worth buying. to an extent that is fine, but what they may very well be doing is just pushing a product for whoever has ties.

Politicians in this matter do not have as much power to convey meaning without media and its the businessman who decides.
so ultimately, that is why i am pissed off at the businessman, they peddle propaganda, own the media, own politicians, are politicians. All of which is an outgrowth of the american beourgois system. fuck the elite and most of all, fuck capitalism.

i know this is a bit of a reiteration of my other post, but i felt this was a bit more solid.

Businesspeople. They are the same time the prime movers of society and the ones holding it back the most. Politicians, the media and economists are for the most part a bunch of tools, although their influence is not insignificant.

Think about it. Who holds back important scientific research because it's not profitable, "marketable", or goes against their interests? Who all but orders engineers, technicians and skilled labourers to cut corners and acquiesce to the demands of bean-counters and pen-pushers? Who greases the hands of politicians with filthy lucre and pours poisoned honey into their ears? Who props up the academics who fabricate various "theories" justifying the ruthless accumulation of capital and tell the capitalists exactly what they want to hear? Who owns the vast majority of the mainstream media?

A tremendous amount of socially useful activities are under their control, yet despite having this power they can easily avoid the responsibilities that should come with it and have minimal if any accountability thanks to their ability to pay people off. There are laws and regulations governing their behaviour, but for the most part such legislation merely nibbles at the edges of the greater problem - the idea that society should be advanced and managed on the basis of the profit motive.

This is a very hard question, but i would actually say academics to a degree, because if one of them favours free-trade and capitalism, no matter whether they are correct or wrong, they are placed on a pedestal as some-sort of messiah.

There theories are uses for years and years after as if it is some sort of magic formula, and despite getting destroyed by left opposition and failing in the real world...there theories are still getting used as if unquestionable.

The economists are business people, they use the media to project their wanted economic activities. The politicians are also business men. They work for only money, the bastards all fall under the category of business people.

Academics
I dislike this word being used to describe the economists. Knowing and teaching about the economy doesn't make you responsible for its problems, the economists who are employed by the media to misguide the people or by the government to manipulate it to help capitalists are, however wouldn't it be more appropriate to just consider them part of those two groups?
