Any of ye heard of this guy?
'I'm completely in support of the anti-globalisation movement,' he says. 'I donate royalties to the Zapatistas in Showpiece, and I don't trust politicians - you've got to act on a neighbourhood level.'
Manu Chao.
He's a cool guy, you can read an interview with him and listen to one of his songs here (http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio3/world/intmanuchao.shtml).
He's pretty left wing.
In his old band, they were asked to give a definition for anarchy, so they trashed the studio.

Oh, yeah, he's definitely one of my favorites.
The song Desaparecido is a fantastic showcase of his talent, I highly recommend it.
He's a big advocate of human rights for all immigrants, as he's pretty much originally from all over himself. The FARC even recognized him enough to let him play several concerts in their formerly held territories in Colombia.
Definitely a must-hear for leftists

I do love Manu Chao a lot, also his previous group Mano Negra. Their music is really cool and we also did learn his songs at school in French and Spanish lessons! Some months ago his concert was in my neighbour country Latvia but unfortunately I couldn't go to there...

Yes, he's great. Two months ago he was in Zagreb. Concert was 500m from my college. I couldn't go, but some of my friends went and said it was great.

Manu Chao? Have I heard of him? He is great. Well, his music is anyway, most of the lyrics go over my head as I don't understand Spanish. I have asked a friend of mine to translate bits of his stuff and the message is good.
I love Bongo-bong.

Bong-bong is all about an important rural type, used to the respect accorded to his position of power, moving to the big city and finding that noone cares or respects him there, he ends up living in a slum, his crown fallen.
It is a fun criticism of the streets-paved-with-gold syndrome that causes millions to give up their livleyhoods and go seeking their fortune in the city, but ending up as another unemployed labourer living in the slums.

Manu Chao and Mano Negra both are great!! If you haven't seen a concert of Manu Chao yet, your life simply is incomplete, it's crazy how that man can create an atmosphere in the crowd and can bring on the good vibes ;)
