I think it would be interesting to hold a bi-weekly Debate thread in the theory forum.

What it basically means is that a thread is started where members can nominate subjects, which then goes to a poll. The subject with the most votes will get a stickied "Debate" thread, which will be started by either me or one of the members who nominated the subject, and hopefully the debate will ensue.

This will, if enough members participate, raise the level of discussion in this forum while also giving us the chance to learn about new subjects or expanding our knowledge about subjects we enjoy.

The aim is for these threads to be a place for advanced, mature, high-level, in-depth discussion. I'll be sure to Mod it appropriately to make sure they will be of that nature, i.e., move any one-liner posts or other spam posts out of the thread.

Anyway, some examples of such threads which hopefully will result from this were the threads that came out of the Debate Competitions idea (which sadly failed as a forum, though worked very well when it was contained in a single group/forum):

Debate on National Liberation and Self-Determination (http://www.revleft.com/vb/group.php?do=discuss&group=&discussionid=774)
Debate on Socialism in One Country (http://www.revleft.com/vb/socialism-one-country-t79027/index.html)
Debate on Kronstadt (http://www.revleft.com/vb/kronstadt-t80959/index.html)
Debate on democratic centralism (http://www.revleft.com/vb/democratic-centralism-t79028/index.html)

The great thing is though (or will be, hopefully) that instead of just two people being involved in these in-depth debates, there will be a lot more, so the discussions would be all the better.

Anyway, I'm going to give this a test-run to see how well it will work.

Here is the first thread for nominations: The Debate: Nominations (http://www.revleft.com/vb/debates-nominations-t114853/index.html?t=114853)

EDIT: See the above nomination thread. Suspended due to lack of interest.
