guys who dress up as fantacy creatures and characters and act in character unless to tell them to drop it. its kinda weird and cool at the same time. i think they act out battles and different scenarios with eachother

I never knew The Prodigy is authentic medievil music.

Of course it is. Invaders Must Die is obviously a collection of folk songs about resistance to the Normans for example.

Ah. I knew they based a song the old King Arthur tale King Arthur Smacketh His Wench Up.

There's actually nothing loser-y unless either you're living in a very elaborate yet unoriginal fantasy universe, or you're dedicating an excessive amount of time to it. Dressing up and playing wizard is fun sometimes. Don't hate.

LARP exists so that people who do historical reenactments or play pen and paper RPGS have someone to laugh at. This is a fact.

The only sight sadder than a fantasy LARP is a modern 'horror' LARP; it's like going to a Bauhaus reunion without any of the cool music.

Pirate Utopian

lol, do you have any footage of modern LARP?

Bauhaus should perform again that would be cool.

I doubt I'd ever actually do it. My point was that the people who do it are only incidentally losers, they just happen to be totally obsessed with knights or Star Wars or whatever, but they needn't.

I love larp! was in a battle of 300+ last year! As fun as hell. Volunteered for the convention of larpers RPG players, miniature gamers and general geeks this year.

I prefer larps modernized version though: Aka Airsoft.

ps. I have elven ears in my closet.

Incorrect, motherfucker. Not only do some people try it and hat it, they write about it in roleplaying e-zines. (http://www.criticalmiss.com/issue2/lrp1.html)

NecroCommie

Relax: I was jokingly pointing out how most of the critizism is often based on baseless assumptions. Anyone who has not at least tried some form of larp should not judge it because of stupid internet stereotypes.

The personal space issue on the article: Thats why I prefer Airsoft, though not having any problem with conventional larp either. You have hard time to even see your enemy, let alone recognize him. If you are close enough to argue with the enemy, something is wrong.

One has to also notice how there are different levels of role play in larps. There are ones that are merely padded sword fights with a theme, and then there are those in which mentioning something as modern as gunpowder will get you kicked out.

LARP has just never appealed to me. I think it's because the people running the game get arsey at you if you're drinking. People doing pen and paper RPGs or wargames tend to be big drinkers as well, so that's not a problem.

NecroCommie
29th April 2009, 14:39
I dunno. I never drink so I never thought about it. Although my group of celtic barbarians are drinkers to some extent (comes with the role), I kind of understand why drinking is not allowed during the game. (safety issues)

I am going to the worlds largest airsoft battle on the last week of june. 4 days and four nights of pure krig!!! It is held in Sweden and some 1500 attendants come from all over the friggin world. I take part in the motorized platoon of "separatist reform party", which is an pro-independence anti-imperialist party in the fictional east-european country of liburania.

OK, most of the participants are "somewhat" right wing. Luckily my own squad is left leaning apoliticals, and true role players to top it off. A great week ahead of me.

Friggin epic!!!

As to the original topic: Airsofters have been used quite excessively in finnish film production, mainly because they usually have the costume already. Fantasy Larpers less so.

That sounds awesome I wish I could go to that the most players we have had at 1 of our games was 30 but it was fun although some people got into a fight during break and people got shot in the face.

It also sounds expensive. It will cost an entire months salary for me (I have a small salary). I had to save 6 months to afford it.

I heard of an anarchist group that joined their local LARP type group in order to learn to better fight riot police.
