Anyone a fan of theirs?
They're a great band especially when it comes to lyrics.
Generation Terrorists is probably my favourite album.

A Design For Life is one of my all-time favourite songs.
I just got tickets a few days ago for their show in Dublin on Dec 1. I can't wait for it.

My fav song is Motown Junk -- I paid £20 for that song at a record fair.

Motown Junk
Never ever wanted to be with you
All you ever gave me was the boredom I suffocate in
Adrift in cheap dreams don't stop the rain
Numbed out in piss towns just wanna dig their graves
Motown, Motown Junk
I laughed when Lennon got shot
21 years of living and nothing means anything to me
Motown Junk a lifetime of slavery
Songs of love echo underclass betrayal
Stops your heart beating for 168 seconds
Stops your brain thinking for 168 seconds
I don't want cos I just get
All you slut heroes offer is a fear of the future
Past made useless cos I'm dying now
Communal tyranny a jail that bleeds our wrists
Motown, Motown Junk
I laughed when Lennon got shot
21 years of living and nothing means anything to me
Motown Junk a lifetime of slavery
Songs of love echo underclass betrayal
Stops your heart beating for 168 seconds
Stops your brain thinking for 168 seconds

My favourite..
Motorcycle Emptiness
Culture sucks down words
Itemise loathing and feed yourself smiles
Organise your safe tribal war
Hurt maim kill and enslave the ghetto
Each day living out a lie
Life sold cheaply forever, ever, ever
Under neon loneliness motorcycle emptiness
Under neon loneliness motorcycle emptiness
Life lies a slow suicide
Orthodox dreams and symbolic myths
From feudal serf to spender
This wonderful world of purchase power
Just like lungs sucking on air
Survivals natural as sorrow, sorrow, sorrow
Under neon loneliness motorcycle emptiness
Under neon loneliness motorcycle emptiness
All we want from you are the kicks you've given us
All we want from you are the kicks you've given us
All we want from you are the kicks you've given us
All we want from you are the kicks you've given us
Under neon loneliness motorcycle emptiness
Under neon loneliness motorcycle emptiness
Drive away and it's the same
Everywhere death row, everyone's a victim
Your joys are counterfeit
This happiness corrupt political shit
Living life like a comatose
Ego loaded and swallow, swallow, swallow
Under neon loneliness motorcycle emptiness
Under neon loneliness motorcycle emptiness
Under neon loneliness motorcycle emptiness
Under neon loneliness everlasting nothingness

Second favourite
4st. 7lbs.
I’m too much to die
I'm not enough to stay alive
I'm sitting in the middle waiting
Days since I last pissed
Cheeks sunken and despaired
So gorgeous sunk to six stone
Lose my only remaining home
See my third rib appear
A week later all my flesh disappears
Stretching taut, cling-film on bone
I'm getting better
Karen says I've reached my target weight
Kate and Emma and Kristin know it's fake
Problem is diet's not a big enough word
I wanna be so skinny that I rot from view
I want to walk in the snow
And not leave a footprint
I want to walk in the snow
And not soil its purity
Stomach collapsed at five
Lift up my skirt my sex is gone
Naked and lovely and 5st. 2
May I bud and never flower
My vision's getting blurred
But I can see my ribs and I feel fine
My hands are trembling stalks
And I can feel my breasts are sinking
Mother tries to choke me with roast beef
And sits savouring her sole ryvitta
That's the way you're built my father said
But I can change, my cocoon shedding
I want to walk in the snow
And not leave a footprint
I want to walk in the snow
And not soil its purity
Kate and Kristin and Kit Kat
All things I like looking at
Too weak to fuss, too weak to die
Choice is skeletal in everybody's life
I choose my choice, I starve to frenzy
Hunger soon passes and sickness soon tires
Legs bend, stockinged I am Twiggy
And I don't mind the horror that surrounds me
Self-worth scatters, self-esteem's a bore
I long since moved to a higher plateau
This disipline's so rare so please applaud
Just look at the fat scum who pamper me so
Yeh 4st. 7, an epilogue of youth
Such beautiful dignity in self-abuse
I've finally come to understand life
Through staring blankly at my navel

A Design For Life
Libraries gave us power
Then work came and made us free
What price now for a shallow piece of dignity
I wish I had a bottle
Right here in my dirty face to wear the scars
To show from where I came
We don't talk about love we only want to get drunk
And we are not allowed to spend
As we are told that this is the end
A design for life
A design for life
A design for life
A design for life
I wish I had a bottle
Right here in my pretty face to wear the scars
To show from where I came
We don't talk about love we only want to get drunk
And we are not allowed to spend
As we are told that this is the end
A design for life
A design for life
A design for life
A design for life
We don't talk about love we only want to get drunk
And we are not allowed to spend
As we are told that this is the end
A design for life
A design for life
A design for life
A design for...

If You Tolerate This Your Children Will Be Next
The future teaches you to be alone
The present to be afraid and cold
So if I can shoot rabbits
Then I can shoot fascists
Bullets for your brain today
But we'll forget it all again
Monuments put from pen to paper
Turns me into a gutless wonder
And if you tolerate this
Then your children will be next
And if you tolerate this
Then your children will be next
Will be next
Will be next
Will be next
Gravity keeps my head down
Or is it maybe shame
At being so young and being so vain
Holes in your head today
But I'm a pacifist
I've walked La Ramblas
But not with real intent
And if you tolerate this
Then your children will be next
And if you tolerate this
Then your children will be next
Will be next
Will be next
Will be next
Will be next
And on the street tonight an old man plays
With newspaper cuttings of his glory days
And if you tolerate this
Then your children will be next
And if you tolerate this
Then your children will be next
Will be next
Will be next
Will be next

It'd be impossible for me to list my favourites, so I'll just give the lyrics to a few different songs.
The Masses Against The Classes
Hello it's us again
we're still so in love with you
And yes we mean it too
yes we're so in love with you
Hello it's us again
you thought you were our friends
Success is an ugly word
especially in your tiny world
The masses against the classes
I'm tired of giving a reason
When the future is what we believe in
We love the winter
it brings us closer together
So can you hurt us anymore
can you feel like it was before
Or are you lost forever more
messed up and dead on alcohol
Hello fond farewell my dears
I hope you hear this nice and clear
Our love is unconditional
our hate is yours to feed upon
The masses against the classes
I'm tired of giving a reason
When the future is what we believe in
We love the winter
it brings us closer together
The masses against the classes
I'm tired of giving a reason
When we're the only thing left to believe in
We love the winter
it brings us closer together

Baby Elian
Blockades won't win you more votes
A Cuban adjustment act
Offer the world a dream
Dress it up - it's blackmail
Internal matter they say
For two million dollars a day
Maybe a future in film
But Cuban boxers still win
Kidnapped - to the promised land
The Bay Of Pigs
Or baby Elian
Operation - Peter Pan
America
The Devil's playground
Baby Elian
Baby Elian
Across the unfair divide
Where black will never meet white
So read my token lips
As if they never exist
You cannot buy a nation
Not even Miami mob
We follow a shining path
That you will never destroy
Kidnapped - to the promised land
The Bay Of Pigs
Or baby Elian
Operation - Peter Pan
America
The Devil's playground
You don't just sit in a rocking chair
When you've built a revolution
You don't just sit in a rocking chair
When you've built a revolution
Baby Elian

Images of perfection, suntan and napalm
Grenada - Haiti - Poland - Nicaragua
Who shall we choose for our morality
I'm thinking right now of hollywood tradegy
Big mac:smack:pheonix r:please smile y'all
Cuba, Mexico cant cauterize our discipline
Your idols speak so much of the abyss
Yet your morals only run as deep as the surface
Cool - groovy - morning - fine
Tipper gore was a friend of mine
I love a free country
The stars and stripes and an apple for mommy
Conservatives say there aint no black in the union jack
Democrat say there aint enough white in the stars and stripes
Compton - Harlem - a pimp fucked a priest
The white man has just found a new moral saviour
Vital stats - how white was their skin
Unimportant - just annother inner city drive-by thing
Morning - fine - serve your first coffee of the day
Real privilege it will take your problems all away
Number one - the best - no excuse for me
I am here to serve the moral majority
Cool - groovy - morning - fine
Tipper gore was a frien of mine
I love a free country
The stars and stripes and an apple for mommy
Zapruder the first to masturbate
The worlds first taste of crucified grace
And we say there's not enough black in the union jack
And we say there's too much white in the stars and stripes
Fuck the brady bill
Fuck the brady bill
If god made man they say

Printed on the back of the holy bible album -
"You're obliged to pretend respect for people and institutions you think absurd. You live attached in a cowardly fasion to moral and social conventions you despise, condemn, and know lack all foundation. It is that permanent contradiction between your ideas and desires and all the dead formalities and vain pretences of your civilisation which makes you sad, troubled and unbalanced. In that intolerable conflict you lose all joy of life and all feeling of personality, because at every moment they suppress and restrain and check the free play of your powers. Thats the poisoned and mortal wound of the civilised world"

NAAARRHH, I was burning houses and breaking the walls 'cause I couldn't get tickets when they were in Finland. I was all "ARARARARARARARARAA!!!"
Oo yeah, I am fan. So much. Lyrics, music, everything.
But... What is this stuff with the words "Forever Delayed"? Everywhere now. The new song, the collection, everything. Not like there's something wrong about it, I'm just wondering.
And what's with this linking lyrics? It's quite annoying. Please stop it. Please? :)

dont you guys care that they are completely hypocritical and the lyrics often are unfounded?
How can the Manics be Communist (as they like to think of themselves if you were unsure) and thier record label is Sony? This is one of the biggest capitalist companies in the world who want to ban MP3's etc.
song such as "FREEDOM OF SPEECH WON'T FEED MY CHILDREN" are meaningless. what are they trying to say? we shouldnt have freedom of speech? He mixes up freedom of speech, something untangible, with feeding children - not only does it not make sense, but it is sending out a Stalin-esque message.
I remember once the drummer in the band made a speech at an interview about how bad multinational corps are. The next day he was seen drinking coca cola it an interview! This band really are not good role models, if they say they're communists, why do they act in such a capitalist and hypocritical way? "as long as it sells records..." and it does! they're releasing a greatest hits album - why does anyone do that apart from to make money?? The music is ok, but i could never like them, and never ever respect them.

steadfast realist, just because they have a record deal with sony doesnt make them any less left wing than they are, if they did not have a record deal then they would not be able to get their songs across to their world audience and would not be able to spread the word that big business is ruining the world.
OK, so them last night for teh first time at the SECC in Glasgow it was f**King amazing, started off with Motorcycle Emptiness and ended with a brilliant version of Design For Life, for all the Manics fans going to see them it will be amazing and dont worry Iain Brown is actually pretty good live as well never really liked the guy before but this has changed my opinion of him

for a band of their stature they are quite poor actually, rather than try and sell themselves out to american audience they played in cuba.
i live in wales (cardiff) they are from blackwood and i have seen james dean bradfield buying a sausage roll in cardiff in a small bakery, my friends have seen nicky wire in newport (a nearby city) and they often frequent their local pub in fact in their community people dont bother them.

I think it's good they played in cuba and are actually down to earth even though they have millions of pounds but i think it hypocritical to decounce capitalist culture and fully intergrate themselves in a corporate capitalist culture. Of course they is the flaunted phrase "use the system to fuck the system" but they dont seem to be fucking the system from my perspective. If they want to do it through their music, they should write intelligent lyrics and not songs such as "Freedom of speech wont save your children" which seems to justify totalitarianism and even "If you tolerate this then your children will be next" as i believe they are sending out a frightening image of society which we live in. I'll do some research and come back to you on that one as i dont have a proper argument yet ;)
I prefer commmunist bands who are anti establishmeant like the manics but pratice what they preach. Sure, there are benefits of working with capitalism as it gets your message across but real communists should hate bourgeois culture and practice what they preach... im gonna see the international noise conspiracy on monday, they are on an independant record label and have constructive revolutionary lyrics. and they rock

steadfast, have the Manics ever claimed to be true Communists? I dont think they have, yes they are supporters of Cuba and Che and they sing about anti-capitalism, they are socialist, you are basically saying that if you had the chance to make a lot of money then you would turn it down. dont think so. I am not a Communist and dont pretend to know everything about Che and the leftist movements but I follow it and I believe that is the way the Manics are as well

"Freedom of speech..." is a song about the United States, and how it always argues that it has freedom of speech for its people, whie many of them starve. Say what you will about totalitarianism, but in the USSR there was 1% living below the poverty line. Now in Russia it's something like 64%.
"If You Tolerate This..." is a song about the Spanish Revolution/Civil War. The quote was made by a famous Spanish socialist.

The point i was trying to make was that they are living by the system and doing nothing to change the system.
I also dont agree with their values, they re hypocritical and seen to use catchy lyrics as a way to sell records. I see the manics using socialism as a way to make more money rather than a firm belief of theirs. what gives me this impression is a mixture of things i guess- the way they used the disappearce of ricky from the band as a media thing and got more coverage after that, manipulating the tragedy as a way to get more money - they were far more successful after his disappearnce than before, instead of being remorseful and spliting up they said "oh its a tradgey yeah -- buy our records kids" sure youd want to make some money if you were in a band but that is not a primary objective in making music when you have a message to you want to get out. If they say theyre socialists, they should do something about it and not simply sell records. praticing what they Preach so to speak.
"Freedom of speech..." is a song about the United States, and how it always argues that it has freedom of speech for its people, whie many of them starve. Say what you will about totalitarianism, but in the USSR there was 1% living below the poverty line. Now in Russia it's something like 64%. "
Say what you will about totalitarianism, but it's fucking evil!! read the Gulag Archipelo, a collection of stories about what went on in labour camps in the USSR between the 1930's and the 1950's where 60,000,000 people died of torture and starvation!! were they living below the poverty line do you think?? Totalitarianism is totally unjustified in every way and i really dont believe that "1%" either, do you think the USSR would want to show weakness to any other countries?? "there are lies, damn lies and Statistics" as a british politition once said. Always check your sources. Even if it were teue, would you like to live under an arbitary power that can take away all your rights when it needs to and send you off to a labour camp when it needs more labourers? I fucking wouldnt!!!
And the song links "Freedom of speech" to "feeding children" which has no relation at all, it's like saying that person has a white cat so he must be an albino, it's illogical to say freedom of speech has anything to do with feeding your kids
