"If you're going somewhere every week when there's a certain good time, just from the community sense - well, it brightens up the people's lives who go"

I randomly stumlbed across an excellent documentary from (I think) British TV in the late 1970s, focusing around Wigan Casino and the Northern Soul circuit. Thanksfully in many small clubs the tradition of this 'movement' can still be found today.

When i'm back at home I regularly attend a Northern Soul revival night and wholeheartedly reccomend the atmosphere and of course the music.

It also does well in linking the soul movement up north with the problems economically at the time, and a little bit of history of the workers there over the years (including an interview of a retired coal miner).

The Northern Soul scene is still very big in the North East. There's a club to go to every weekend near where I live such as Big Club, RAFA or Ineos. I DJ'd at that latter the other month. Been a DJ for a few years now but it was the first Northern Soul club I'd done a set at. Really enjoyed it.

Here's a video of a few Northern Soul dance moves.
