So, of those of you who saw it, what did you think. I like both groups. I was surprised the Hives played main offender though, as almost no one really knows many song except Hate to Say I Told You So. The Vines are still pretty good too. Opinions, comments, anything?

I like both bands. They're raising the dead brand of rock music. When they sing the lyrics, you can hardly tell they have an accent but when they speak you can defenintly tell they're foreign.

i love the hives...but i don't have mtv(my mind is less corrupted without it) so it's hard for me to understand why they are on mtv. The vines on the other hand are not so good. i heard the album but it really doesn't have the same impact as the single. the single is the only catchy song they have. they remind me of a sober and whimpy version of the strokes. if they lose that image they might have something going.

hmmm. Man in Red Suit, what makes you say that. I am just curious.

The Vines have absolutely no talent, and The Hives performed like The Stones.

The Hives win. They rule. The Vines are kinda dull...

Wow, i never thought anyone would have a negative reaction towarsd the Vines. How are they talentless. In my opinion, when you have the lead singer playing the instrument, it takes talent(even if the singing is just incoherent screaming).

I disagree. That would make Chad Kroeger talented...

i can play the recorder, am i talented?

The way MTV advertised it, as a kind of battle of the bands, I was expecting more. One played, then the other, and that was it.
I didn't think any of it was special. And the overall show was shit. Except the presenter - I loved the way he parodied Enrique and Nelly.

You're not singing, so I guess not.

Yeah, jimmy Fallon is great.
But you must understand, that even talking as you play a guitar is almost difficult, let along singing.

There are a hundred bands just like The Vines.
Mazdak

Yeah.... but there are hundreds of boy bands. What is your point. There were hundreds of composers during the classical age of music.

actually I will have to retract my statement. I have never heard of the hives or what they might sound like.
I only know that the vines suck horribly in my opinion.
all bands that were formed after 1994 suck. after Nirvana's demise music went to shit. I used to actually like that band system of a down. I don't know what the hell got into me. New bands are just horrible

I agree, most knew bands do suck. SOAD is not one of these. But i think Get Free and Highly Evolved are pretty good songs. What exactly does everyone have against the vines?
BTW, what is your opinion on the Foo Fighters?

I love the foo fighters. I guess you got me there. they were formed at around 1995 right? I admit You got me there. But I fucking hate SOAD now and everything else I hear on the radio these days. It all sounds the same. It has no unique sound. It is either whining, (stupid) screaming and shouting like dumbasses, (very stupid) or rapping (horribly stupid). It all has the same crappy sound to me. so I think I will restatemy statement again and say that all bands formed after 1995 suck. I don't think you'l get me this time Mazdak.. AGHAGHAG I hate new music. I think I will go listen to my cream cd now.

????
I agree with you on the fact that all singers do is either rap, whine, or scream. And they all sound the same. You got me there. The Foo fighters and (Krist Novoselic formed this next one) Sweet 75(i think thats its name) were formed in 96 i think.

yeah Novoselic did form sweet75 in 96 but there is one problem; they suck. Have you ever heard any of their stuff? it sounds like bad Fleetwood Mack

There is no comparison between the two.
The Vines = screaming shit that Rock has become.

oh, i brought this topic back because i just noticed the shirt the drummer had on athte MTV award thing.
It was red and had the words "CCCP" in yellow on it. I also sort of made out a small yellow symbol above the word. I have the hives vs vines downloaded so it is pretty blurry. Did anyone eles notice this?

I like both of them, especially the vines 'cause that guy screams funny, lol
mazdak,
No, I haven't noticed that. But MuchMusic is airing the MTV awards again this weekend so I'll make sure I watch it and see if I notice anything :)

I think the vines are quite good. Some of their more mellow songs on the cd are good for late at night, and get free is a sweet song.

Well? I am almost positive the drummer for the vines had a communist shirt on. Maybe they are more political then i thought.

The Vines are shit, they can only crack it in Australia (their own country) because they are promoted as "the big thing in the united states". Get Free must be the worst song to come out of Australia since... Kylie Minogue's shit.
But Grinspoon, now thats a band! Frenzal Rhomb is fully sick too.
Dan Majerle

The Vines aren't big in Australia, they emerged in Europe before been promoted down hear. And yes Kylie Minogue is really bad.

Hey Dan, just 2 questions...
1/ Who are the two people in your Avatar?
2/ What book is your signature from? I know it's the one with the suicide statistics but I forget what its called

I doubt they're political, he's probably just wearing it as a 'fashion statement' or something. It was a cccp shirt but I couldn't make out the symbol either, they didn't get a close up so I couldn't tell for sure what it was.

The white guy is Dan Majerle and the black guy is Kevin Johnson, former NBA and Phoenix Suns legends who both recently retired. Dan retired last year so i pay homage to him.
The Karl Marx quote comes from the book "Marx on suicide".
