Have any of you seen this movie? The style is slapstick comedy, romantic comedy and drama all rolle dinto one. It is about this jewish family in fascist italy during WW2. the protagonist Guido Orifice (Roberto Benigni) as well a his son and wife try to survive in fascist italy in the firsts half of the movie and in the second half they are imprisoned in a concentration camp and Guido has to make up a game for his son so that they both can survive. its a very funny film but under the surface is the fact that they are being persecuted all the time. its a very sad and funny movie and if you havent seen it i would highly recommend it.

One of the best movies I've ever seen, thanks for reminding people about this. The actor (who was also the director of this film, I believe) got a well deserved Oscar for this. I don't want to say anything more, because viewers will enjoy it better without knowing. All I can say is that I laughed and cried in the same breath during the last scene of the movie, it was amazing.

Life is beautiful: The title derives from Leon Trotsky's last testament written while in exile in Mexico, expecting to die shortly from high blood pressure (or from agents loyal to his rival Joseph Stalin), Trotsky wrote,
"Natasha has just come up to the window from the courtyard and opened it wider so that the air may enter more freely into my room. I can see the bright green strip of grass beneath the wall, and the clear blue sky above the wall, and sunlight everywhere. Life is beautiful. Let the future generations cleanse it of all evil, oppression and violence, and enjoy it to the full." (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Life_Is_Beautiful#Title) Makes it all the more worth watching. http://www.revleft.com/vb/life-beautiful-t107416/revleft/smilies/biggrin.gif

I have read Trotsky's last testament. It's quite good actually so I thought it was kinda neat that they would use the "Life Is Beautiful" part for the title of this film. I have yet to see it though.
