Any of you fans of bands like Finntroll, Eluveitie, Turisas, and tyr?
Also if you don't then what metal do you like?

Hey there - I listened to Eluveitie's new album a few days ago. I believe it's the first folk-metal album I heard in my life. To my surprise, I couldn't really hear any 'metal' elements at all - it sounded more like poppy folk to me and had quite a 'commercial' appeal. Is that because they left their metal roots behind, or is this just the way folk-metal sounds?
It's not something I would have expected to get into, but it grew on me very quickly, and I like the album a lot now.
Can you recommend a few crucial folk-metal bands and albums to check out? What are the classic of the genre?

Yeah, you have a fan here! Was in the concert of Ensiferum last summer, and it ROCKED!!! No other genre produces moshpits as the likes of folk-metal gigs. Its a general mixture of moshpit dying and circular folk dances = weirdness.
I also have the albums of Turisas, and some albums of Finntroll. As an underground curiosity I also like Kivimetsän druidi. The only thing I dislike about the genre is the overt nationalism. Yagh!
Emperor is my god-thing!

Yea favourite folk metal bands would be Waylander and Cruachan (Older stuff). Saw waylander in Armagh a few months back. Great band to see live. Would recommend there new album or if you can find it their first release, which i think has been reissued on sentinel records.

I saw Ensiferum when they came around with Amon Amarth... gonna see them again when Summer Slaughter tour comes around.
Not a fan, but they're on some damn good tours. Just not too big on folk metal personally.

Moonsorrow has a really epic sound. I'm mostly impressed on the "imagery" it achieves through sound.Somehow, it really stimulates my visual imagination.

CoF I can't stand, Dark Funeral I can tolerate. There's much better black metal out there, but watch out for the White Nationalist BM.

Good evening Comrade Skin_HeadBanger.
How are you?
Sorry about that was just wandering what everyone was thinking of these metal bands. :blushing:
If I may ask why don't you like COF? Are they Nazi orientated or something because if they are, I'm sorry I didn't know, then I will burn the COF cds in such a case immedattly.
but watch out for the White Nationalist BM.
Is there a nazi by the name of White Nationalist on here, that I don't know of? In such case what is such scum doing here. Is that what you're trying to tell me? Sorry don't understand.

Personally, I hate Dani Filth, and just find nothing attractive about CoF. I'm really big on the "extreme" metal scene (death, grind, etc.), but just can't get into CoF. As far as I know, they're not a nazi band.
As far as the white nationalist thing, I was talking about a certain sect of black metal(National Social Black Metal, or just NSBM). Neither of the bands you posted are white nationalist as far as I know, but I was just letting you know, just in case. It's just black metal with white nationalist lyrics.
Some NSBM bands are Burzum, Graveland, Infernum, Thor's Hammer, and Absurd. Just watch out for bands like that.

Finntroll, Wintersun, Ensiferum, Moonsorrow! :D i didnt expect to find a folk metal community in here seeing as there are many many punk-rockers.
I also love Gogol Bordello but thats sort of folky punk, not metal.
i also enjoy death metal regardless of possible political affiliation, (half the time i cant understand what theyre saying haha)

Actually we were talking about black metal, but no matter.:D
Personally, I do care about their politics because I don't want to support a band that could be helping the enemy, or even be the enemy. If the bands conservative, that's fine, but if they're far-right, then I've got a problem with them.

Good evening Comrade Skin_HeadBanger, thank you for the good advice.
I didn't even know these or such bands existed.
I understand what you mean about COF.
I would really like to hear some of the bands you listen to, any idea where I can get some of their music?
Regards.
