so im trying to make a video with windows movie maker and along with pictures i want to add in a video clip. but i dont know how to get the video from youtube to my hard drive. iv emailed it to myself but that doesnt help at all. is there any way of getting the video from youtube to my hard drive so i can put it into my video im making? prefereably in a "non-controversial manner" if you know what i mean ;)

I use the downloadhelper addon for firefox, but it doesn't convert them from flash.

ye i use windows so i dont think that will work

the keepvid.com site doesnt work for me for some reason :(

RealPlayer lets you download content from YouTube, however I don't know if the RealVideo format will work with your editing software, worth a try I guess.

i think youtube have taken down the option to download it to realplayer

Use FreeYoutubeDownloader, works perfectly, saves the video in many formats, i use it all the time for getting documentaries and videos of net.

This only works on Windows.

Youtube-dl is a Linux alternative. On Ubuntu for example you simply do:


sudo apt-get install youtube-dl
