Terry Jones: Barbarians

As you may know, the beginning of western civilisation could be said to be the Roman Republic. The Romans invented lead pipes, aqueducts, concrete domes, pavement, political parties and hamburgers. All who were not Romans were "barbarians" according to the Romans.

But were they really that?

Terry Jones, former part of Monty Python, has made a documentary about the cultures which Romans referred to as "barbarian". I must say it is interesting.

Here we could see that the barbarians often were quite sophisticated and had developed advanced technologies and societies for their time.

i love terry jones his history programmes, i think his (and some of the giliam movies) are the best work of the ex-pythons

When I had seen the episode about the Celts, I am thinking in the line that the history of Europe may have been more... humanistic had the Celts defeated Rome and not the other way around.
