It's in the news now thanks to the stupid controversy about Hugo Chavez gifting it to Barack Obama. Now lots of people want to see what the fuss is all about. An excellent book in my opinion and one that drives right-wingers in all nations berserk.
Send me a pm for a rapidshare link to a pdf copy in english and spanish, will also email on request. If the powers that be say that it's okay and desirable I'll post the link in thread.
Edit: here's the link, I guess if its against the rules someone will just delete it

Password is revleft. Both languages are in there
Edit2: For those that just nab the link and don't read down to the rest of the thread here's a letter from the Monthly Review, leftist publisher of the US edition. If you decide to buy the book it would be far better to get it direct from the publisher than through Amazon or B&N or whatever. Thanks to Magdalen for bringing it to our attention.
Dear Friend of Monthly Review:
You may have heard that this past weekend, President of Venezuela Hugo Chávez presented U.S. president Barack Obama with a classic title from Monthly Review Press: Eduardo Galeano’s Open Veins of Latin America. (See this article from The Guardian (http://www.anonym.to/?http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2009/apr/19/obama-chavez-book-gift-latin-america).)
This is an important text from one of Latin America’s most renowned writers, and we are happy to see it making headlines. If you would like to order a copy, please visit our website (http://www.anonym.to/?http://www.monthlyreview.org/books/openveinslatinamerica.php) or call 800.670.9499. Whether you are rediscovering this wonderful book or reading it for the first time, you will find Open Veins of Latin America both insightful and inspiring. Our edition includes a foreword by acclaimed novelist Isabel Allende.
As an independent, not-for-profit publisher, Monthly Review Press relies completely on the support of our readers. Since 1952 we have published some of the most important voices in the struggle for socialism and against imperialism. The book went from around number 54,000 on the Amazon best seller list, to number 2 in just a few days after Chavez gave it to Obama.

I gave you thanks, but I have the book. I recommend if people like what they read from the link, they should buy a copy. It may be sold out on Amazon in the US right now, but wait a few weeks and read the link for now.
Having the book makes it easier to read and you can make notes but also left-wing books, presses, and publishers are the one time I think it is better to buy it than get it for free. Download all the music you want, read all the Dickens or other 19th century writers you want on Project Guttenburg, but if you can afford it, throw down a little money for left-wing books. Even if they are published by a major publishing company, we should buy it so that people will continue publishing left-wing books.

Reading books from a PDF file is so comparatively unpleasant that I'd imagine that if someone could afford to they would pay for it. Also I believe the US edition of Open Veins is published by Monthly Review who put out some great stuff.
I've had the book for some time but I decided to do this to make it available to a wider audience. I figured making it available at zero monetary and negligible time cost would make people more prone to check it out. If someone is really interested they're liable to buy it just for the convenience (and the supporting leftist publisher angle).
On the other hand people who just read the PDF in part or in whole probably would never have bought it anyway either because it's not that interesting to them or because they simply can't afford it.

I think the book is written fantastically and I'm not very far into it. One metaphor that sticks is the revolutionary literature one. Three cheers for Gonzeau!

I thought I'd better forward this. Monthly Review Press are urging people to buy the book directly from them rather than lining the pockets of the owners of Amazon. The recent publicity around Open Veins of Latin America has provided Monthly Review with a terrific opportunity to stablise its permanently shaky finances. The books published by Monthly Review are an incredibly valuable resource for socialists, and many are not available anywhere else in the English language, such as the works of William Hinton. All profit made on their book is put straight back towards releasing more works into the public domain.

Hugo Chavez should start his own book club along the lines of Oprah. Imagine a little sticker on this book and the Chomsky one saying "recommended by Chavez to everyone who thinks Bush smells like sulfur".
Gonzeau - I think it's great that you posted this link and I agree with your reasoning that people will buy it if they have the money. Actually, being able to read it online would make more people want to read it and ultimately buy it (I don't understand why music/movie/book publishers haven't figured this out yet). I just wanted to make the case that comrades should steal fiction and books by liberal or conservative hacks, but it's better to buy left books - even if it's from Amazon.com!

I'll add to this, that when you buy it/order it from an actual bookstore instead of Amazon, you're telling them that they should keep copies of that book on the shelf (where people who are browsing and have never heard of it will happen across it).
