I'm not very sure if there has been already many threads about Sex Pistols but as I think they are quite cool I decided to ask the people of Che-lives what they are thinking abou them. So...?!

I like the EMI song most of all.

There's unlimited supply
And there is no reason why
I tell you it was all a frame
They only did it 'cos of fame
Who?

E.M.I. E.M.I. E.M.I.

Too many people had the suss
Too many people support us
An unlimited amount
Too many outlets in and out
Who?

E.M.I E.M.I E.M.I

And sir and friends are crucified
A day they wished that we had died
We are an addition
We are ruled by none
Never ever never

And you thought that we were faking
That we were all just money making
You do not believe we're for real
Or you would lose your cheap appeal?

Don't judge a book just by the cover
Unless you cover just another
And blind acceptance is a sign
Of stupid fools who stand in line
Like

E.M.I E.M.I E.M.I

Unlimted edition
With an unlimited supply
That was the only reason
We all had to say goodbye

Unlimited supply (E.M.I)
There is no reason why (E.M.I)
I tell you it was all a frame (E.M.I)
They only did it 'cos of fame (E.M.I)
I do not need the pressure (E.M.I)
I can't stand those useless fools (E.M.I)
Unlimited supply (E.M.I)
Hello E.M.I
Goodbye A & M

You all might hate me for saying this, but the Sex Pistols weren't really all that great. Yeah sure, they got punk it's first important publicity, but they weren't the greatest punk band then.

I disagree, I think they were awesome. I don't have a favorite punk band, so yeah. But.......
I was in London a few months ago, and I read that Johnny Rotten and the Sex Pistols - Sid(of course) wanted to play a concert for the 50th Jubilee of the Queen. I thought that was very...................odd of them to do. I don't know if they went through with it but yeah...

If they did play a concert "for" the Golden Jubilee I am sure it would have been similar to that they played for the Silver Jubilee.....that famous concert on a boat on the Thames, that got broken up by the police.

And as for the Sex Pistols.....I grew up on them. They are great! If you ever wanna watch a great film about them check out the Filth and the Fury, it is a great documentary with firsthand interviews. Great footage, great movie....I was actually able to catch it at my local indie theatre.

I've seen the Filth and the Fury even twice. The firts time was about 2 year ago suring a film festival and the second time about 4 months ago when it was on the national TV channel. The film really really rocks!

They're one of the greatest punk bands for sure. Bodies, Seventeen, Holiday in the sun and God save the Queen are eally great songs. My fave though is their make of Johnny B. Goode/Road runner..

The interesting thing about the Sex Pistols is not the music (i only class 3 or their songs as any way decent) but the dimensions they add to the "what is punk?" debate. If you claim Blink 182 aren't punk and Pistols are, then the debate is buggered because they are both pop, and they both sold out, and they are both in it for the money. The 'Cash From Chaos' ethos they have is still intact, and is that very punk of them? I don't know.

The Sex Pistols did play a Jubille gig at Crystal Palace, but from what i've read '...Trail Of The Dead' (one of the support bands) stole the show. The Sex Pistols also released a commemorative box-set for the Jubille, priced £24.99. Is that punk rock? Its interesting to ponder.

i posted once on them!! it was sex pistols, or ramones?
and i asked who started punk. then somene said neither it was the new york dolls (after hearing new york dolls it did not sould much like punk rock more of rock and roll with a bit of a twist).

they are cool by the way

Yeah but Blink 182 sings about "What's my age again" and "All the small things" Nothing Social and their songs have no cursing or other objectable things in it.

Steve Jones Cared a bit about the music and so did Rotten, On a video I was watching the other day both said they were starting to hate touring and such because they were turning into Rolling Stones type shows where they just went out and played the songs and found no thrill. That's not to say the money wasn't a big part of it but I think Mclaren was the one that kept them informed of that part..

Blink 182 try and annoy Mums and Dads with songs about trumping and naughty words. Sex Pistols annoyed Mums and Dads with songs about the queen and naughty words. I'd hardly call "Pretty Vacant" social commentary.

Plus, Blink are punks. They grew up on Black Flag, etc, and just because they make pop now (and i agree it is pop) doesn't mean they aren't punk rock anymore.

I'm happy with these discussions, because they do go round in circles and it comes back to the "what is punk?" debate all the time.

Peace,
Zippy.

That's cos ...And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead (their full name) are one of the finest bands to emerge in the last four years or so, whereas the Pistols were old farts socialising with Richard and Judy. They were good in 1977, but not anymore.
