Come join the hard-working families of Vassar College as they rally to stay on the job during the summer. For many years the College was made great by the people who dedicated their lives here. But with layoffs occurring, and scaled-back work, these same families now face uncertainty and fear.
Come join us on May Day and come save the families!
Date: Friday, May 1st, 2009
Time: Noon-2PM
Place: Front steps of Main Building at Vassar College, 124 Raymond Ave.
(That's the leaflet the SEIU produced for their rally. Basically what's happening is that the union service employees at Vassar- food, buildings/grounds etc. are promised summer work ahead of everyone else in their contract, which includes students and contractors. The administration is scaling back summer work, which has never been done before, and union workers are indeed promised inter-session work in their contract. The administration has openly admitted that they aren't particularly concerned about having the buildings, grounds etc. in shape for the next school year.)
