For some reason my email address isn't working to register on the Soviet Empire forum so i've decided to make a new one. Any suggestions?

Something tells me this might be criticism from an anarchist perspective... that will have to stand unless they feel they need to elaborate.

A "leftist-communist" site-forum called "empire" and demands for registration a paid email address instead of the free available ones.Do i need to say more?

I think their intro page before the forum pretty much says it all. In general it seems more obsessed with soviet russia than socialist politics and while some good discussion occurs I don't see the site as having much relevance to those who want to inspire a revolutionary working class.

They want people to use paid email providers? Fuck that! I'm staying here forever!

They don't allow freemail accounts because they don't want to have every idiot registering. Unfortunately, that has failed, because there are lots of idiots. Anyway, if you have an e-mail address from school, college, work, etc., that should do the trick.

Nope. I get where your coming from. Pretty ridiculous.

Yeah, I had a gander at it. Useful for historical discussions, not so much for the here and now of revolutionary struggle. And I wasn't too thrilled about the formatting. It looks it that RevLeft is the place to be, InsertNameHere. ;)

Not the best of ideas, for those who wish to protect their anonymity.

I don't. Oh well. That site seems Capitalist anyway since they expect people to pretty much pay to use the site.

You don't have to pay to use the site. They just figure: "If people don't have work, school, or college, they're probably bored kids who just want to troll forums." Of course, the most persistent losers will still manage, so it seems to be a kind of redundant policy. I didn't expect it to be still in place.

It's a "capitalist site" just like every other site on the internet, including RevLeft. It's not run by communists, though. It used to be a micronation (not like in real life, just as a sort of role playing game), which then developed into a political forum (PoFo). Since there were lots of communists and people interested in the USSR on PoFo, they made a communism-oriented discussion forum alongside PoFo, SE.

I used to be a mod on it, but I stopped posting long because the set of admins are complete idiots. It has some good discussions and good people. And also lots of idiots. Just like RevLeft, right fuser? ;)

Well I know you don't actually pay to use the site, you just pay to use the email address you use on the site. Technically it could be considered paying for the site.

I actually used to be a member of PoFo, but they banned me because I was under eighteen! :cursing:

I find Soviet Empire's country-by-country forum structure way more useful for learning than pretty much anything on revleft. Also, I appreciate their emphasis on formal discussion rules that prevent people on the forum from alienating newcomers before they even get to the content.

The difference is that S-E has no anarchists and trotskyists.

R-O-F-L-M-A-O

I will say like this, that the communities are adapted to different kinds of species. It would be like saying that humans and squids are competitors.

Soviet Empire attracts people who like the Soviet Union because it had a cool army and uniforms, or have played the Red Alert games and fallen in love with The Evil Empire. It is mainly a nostalgia site.

Revleft used to be the exact inversion. Filled with happy anarchists and looking forward. Then, it stopped restrict the anti-revisionist marxist-leninists.

When this site was called "Che-Lives" I believe Stalinists were restricted. I had another account then (I don't even remember the name I posted by) but I definitely remember that.

Yes, because its impossible to think that a time in the past was better in some way than the present :rolleyes:Oh such nostalgia is perfectly warranted if you have experienced this 'better past'. Otherwise you are simply pining for a golden age that never existed and that you never experienced

Honestly I can say that the level of discussion here, in most respects, is roughly the same as it was four years ago. Some areas are worse (Chit-Chat) while some are better (Learning & History). But then I'm in a position to judge

I registered and pretty much everything on the site is about Soviet Russia and the HISTORY of Communism. There really isnt anything productive about it at all, its just a place for people to dwell on the past and wish they lived in the 40's... much like SF :laugh::laugh:
