I haven’t been around for a while, so I don‘t know if anybodies brought them up. Orishas is a Cuban hip hop band that is currently based in France. I heard them for the first time when I was in Havana and I‘ve been playing their music non stop since then, they are incredible! Cuban hip hop rules! The beats, the lyrics, the Cuban rhythms, it just blows me away! Their „a lo cubano“ cd is a real must have and even though a lot of people have been critical of the follow up „emigrantes“, I still think its excellent. On amazon.com they have a few sample songs for anyone who's interested.

Also has anyone heard of Carlos Varela? A Cuban friend gave me his „ Como los peces“ tape and its such beautiful, soulful, sad music, its another one you have to check out. But just to let you know, he is quite critical of the revolution and Fidel, so if that bothers you, better just to let this one be.
