As you can find out from my profile, I am a Romanian citizen.
The People

The situation in my country regarding civic consciousness (not to mention the local perception of socialism) is dire. As a matter of fact, most people here are fed up of all the crap the government has pulled since the '89 Revolution, and being fed up, they have fallen in the pit of ignorance, refusing to touch anything politically related.
Mass consciousness has been murdered and all that prevails is America's pseudo-cultural, consumerist influence. Also, communism here is either wrongly linked directly to Ceausescu's dictatorship or dismissed as idealist, impossible-to-achieve crap.

The Enemy

This being the situation, the rate at which extreme right-wing nationalism gains in popularity amongst the Romanian youth is extremely alarming to me. The so-called "Noua Dreapta" (the "New Right") organization seems to be the main enemy if any left-wing action were to be taken in my country. Their main targets of this movement seem to be the Hungarian ethnics of Transylvania and the Gay community.
They seem to have the upper hand in protests, websites, media (papers, leaflets, etc.) and music because they are alone on the field with absolutely no other organization to challenge them.

What is to be done ?
Now comes my question. What can I do to stop these "Hitler fanboys" ?
I have no experience in such situations, but I am willing to learn. I would have joined a organization or at least tried to make a group of friends if I would have met anyone with left leaning political views.
I might try to start a organization by myself, but without a minimum of guidance or support, I don't think I'd be able to carry such a task.
Maybe I can concentrate my efforts on a politically "neutral" position, by attacking government policies in regards to workers rights, defend the workers in cases of factory closure and all sorts of socially oriented tasks, etc.
Or maybe I can help in setting up a "forward post" for any foreign organization that might be interested in extending its operations in Romania, I don't know.
All in all, whatever shall happen, I'm worried sick and angry of the situation in Romania, on all aspects, but more than all, I am angry that the proletariat of Romania, as I see it from my subjective view, is deeply sleeping in ignorance, with our class rivals marching triumphantly over our heads!
I might be following in Winston Smith's footsteps (in a more romantic vision), but I am willing to risk, as little a impact as my actions might have!

If anyone has any advice for me, or wishes to discuss the socio-political situation in Romania, feel free to do so. I am more than happy to contribute with all of my humble knowledge!

My knowledge of Romanian politics is pretty lacking, but if there is truly nothing else, then try the Romanian Socialist Party.

Well, there's the Socialist Alliance Party and from what I've gathered, I've seen confused messages (for instance, the youth section had a campaign against homosexuals) and I've also seen some articles praising the "glorious" accomplishments of the Ceausescu regime !
Apart from this, there's a bunch of scattered old people who still think that Ceausescu was a great leader.

There might be the punk community as these guys seem to have a higher political awareness, although I'm not sure how left-leaning is the Romanian community.

Comrade the simple answer to your question is political activism.
By campaigning for working class issues tirelessly within your community you will gain their respect and trust.
With a respect for you will come a respect for your politics.
It just takes hard work and activism.

So basically, all falls on my shoulders.
Well, I could start with building a site, writing articles, videos on youtube and maybe post stickers around town, linking towards the site.
I could also try to keep contact via IM with those who seem interested and from there on, see if we can evolve to more concrete actions, like face-to-face meetings and organizing all sorts of actions.
Well, summer vacation's coming, so I'll have enough time to focus and do something on the subject.

Thanks for your help comrades!
