Well I must agree with SOME of the views they are expressin. In fact, musically and lyrically that would be one of my all time favorite, BUT i just can't feel them knowin that they hate me as a 'white' person. They are not just anti the system, they are actually anti-ME. i read some interview (a chat that took place in South Africa). They asked how many white people were in there. And one guy said he was, but that he been down with hiphop since forever. He asked them why they made that question. But he was ignored for the rest of the conversation. that's so sad. they even diss their own fans! it wouldn't matter if he was down with the couse - he was white! There were 'whites' that died side by side their black sisters and brothers in the Civil Rights Movement and there are even more activists today i believe. fightin for the cause of justice and for socialism... but i just can't feel the vibes knowing that they could put a cap in my ass without blinking... damn

I know white kids who stereotype black people does that make them racist? No just ignorant

Dead Prez ain't racist, that's a misconception perpetuated by white people who don't like their politics.

please quote some of their "racist" lyrics.

"that's a misconception perpetuated by white people who don't like their politics" Did you even read my post?! i actually agree with most of what they are sayin except for the racist slurs...

And to clear out the definitions:

POWER is a NOT prerequisite for racism, it's a prerequisite for INSTITUTIONAL RACISM. White supremacy is ONE example of institutional racism. RACISM is falsly claiming that there are human races and that some 'race' is superior/inferior. RACIAL PREJUDICE is disliking certain people cuz of their 'race'.

Okay, in Dead Prez lyrics they clearly show they have racial prejudice. I can not prove that they are actually racist, but it wouldn't suprice me. I mean if a certain % of the Black population in America is racist by definition, then why do the fans have such a hard time accepting there are racist artists? I've come across many racist blacks on Hiphop message boards, so you think they're not represented among the THOUSANDS of MC's with record deals in the US?

It's just not true. I've listened to their album like 100,000 times and I don't see a hint of racism.

Please drop some quotes.

Hey, I just read the transcript from that interview in South Africa--it's hard to read because I think it is a chat transcription. Anyway you can find it at:

M1 asks how many white ppl there were. I don't think it was racist. I agree with perception. I also tried to find racist lyrics and couldn't find any.

"We ain't about what's devil level" ("devil" refers to white people or cappies? i'm not sure)

"Everywhere the white man go he bring misery/All throughout history, look it up ... Every government he set up, it be corrupt" (this quote speaks for itself. They are not just nati this system and anti-capitalism they are ANTI-WHITEMAN)

"Fuckin with the teachers had, callin em racist/I tried to show them crackers some light, they couldn't face it" (racist slurs)

I'm white and I agree with the last two statements.

You need to understand the dead prez claims that white people stole them from africa and brought them here as slaves to the capilatist system. Which is true.

There are many racist teachers.

The first is not a reference to white people I don't think...it seems to be reference to the actual devil.

#1 - could mean either, neither would be racist.

#2 - sounds like Michael Moore. And its true, regardless who says it.

#3 - put it in the context of the song. He's talking about miseducation and racist teachers, who is what he says a slur?

first of all while cracker is a deragatory term if you don't want it to apply to you it doesn't.

I am black, that doesn't make me a nigger (not nigga nigger)

I am not a nigger until I believe that i am, if I don't believe that I am then I'm not.

The racial slur coon is used for black people but only black people who sell out and put on an act for white people are coons.

It does'nt apply to me

I am a black male living in urban north america... I am in the center of babylon and come face to face with the topics in dead prez's music... I am one of thier biggest fans as they actually know what they speak about, and they represent it to the fullest....
This is well known that Dead Prez doesn't like "wannabe wiggers", "uncle tom's", "rednecks", "crackers (relating to people that live the life of Wally Cleaver, Ritchie Cunningham and any other spoiled, ignorant white person that believes everything is right with the system)....
I have come across many racist white teachers (I know that there are more than white racists) in my experience through public education system in the Caribbean as well as the United States and Canada.... I have been called a nigger when I lived in Chicago by a gym teacher, monkey, and so on, plus the unlimited amount of stereotyping nonsense that goes on with the complexion of my skin, or dress....
Dead Prez is about revoultion... the title of their album "WE WANT FREEDOM" speaks volumes about their interests, as they want freedom from oppressive white capitalist governments.... the states supposedly has a representitive government, but yet it is not true, when the world "leader" still has racial problems at home, and then boycotts a UN summit on racism, one has to wonder what is going on...
DEAD PREZ is real.... they are concious hip hop for the ghetto youth.... educating people through lyrics, and opening eyes to the world beyond the nonsense you see on tv....

i'll post some lyrics later on...

I got one of their songs on net, called "We Need A Revolution" and some of the lyrics go...

I can end racism
A product of capitalism

It's a good song - unfortuately though they start shouting "be-yotch" at the end.

Mugabe is corrupt as fuck, I think all gov'ts have some level of corruption....
not just white governments, I think this is a silly statement.

But Dead Prez are cool and the statement is silly on its own but in the context of the song I'm sure it is acceptable.
