Hi I'm 15, and although I always hated how (my family included) were exploited by the upper classes, I took Socoiology as one of my options at school and now I've become really interested in socialism, the hidden curiculum, media bias, racism ect....

So basically I'm just learning as much as I can and everything here sounds sick, so I'm gonne be here a lot more

I've been very fortunate with teachers, aswell as my Sociology one, I have a teacher who said socialism was better than capitalism and quite a few anti - racist ones!

It's just the idiot pupils that are the problem, who are of course more influential lol

Class consciousness, a good thing to have indeed!

I LOVE Sociology, so much that I'm majoring in it. I had a really left-wing teacher who is a big part of the reason why I'm here as well.

Sounds like a plan. Welcome aboard! ;)

The modern education system has a substantial pro-socialist bias (it's run by the government, duh!). Free market capitalism has its defenders that you've probably never read or even heard of before, and I believe that they are right and the critics of capitalism are wrong. I would encourage you to explore various ideas, think critically, perpetually challenge yourself.

Your idea of "socialism" is shit. I suggest YOU get acquainted with what socialists actually advocate before saying the education system has a "socialist bias". Sure, it may not advocate "laissez-faire" ultra-capitalism either, but nevertheless, the capitalist bias is there. Government intervention does not equal socialism, and the sooner you realize that, the better time you'll have debating at the OI. At least then you'll be arguing the merits of actual socialism, instead of blasting a system none of us really give a damn about and accusing us of supporting it.

Anyway, I got acquainted with socialism (as Marx actually concieved of it) in an ethics class. I also studied Adam Smith, Milton Friedman, and Michael Albert in that same class. I came out not sure if I supported socialism or capitalism more, but as I read more and more, socialism came out triumphant. Now I'm a major in both political science and sociology, and I've had numerous leftist professors in both majors, which has made for pleasant experiences.

Ha, bullshit. How many professors of dissenting political beliefs have their tenure taken away because pro-capitalist American sensibility is offended by the things they write? And the "It's run by the government line, duh" line is about as dumb as it gets. Government is de-facto run by for profit corporations who seek to protect their wealth, and purchase politicians like so many cigarettes. So far, so fail.

Yeah, we've heard what Anne Rand, Ron Paul, and the bunch have to say. Their ideas get quite a bit of air time (since they have the resources to buy it, and market themselves as the soothsayers of the modern geopolitical experience)

I would encourage you to explore various ideas, think critically, perpetually challenge yourself.

I'd ask the same of you. Your system produces more carnage through structural violence, through starvation and treatable disease (of which there is no excuse for in todays world), that the second World War produced in six, and at the same time, you have corporate CEO motherfuckers flying in private jets and buying 5 homes for themselves. And you seek to DEFEND THIS?!??!

I smell TROLL (or someone destined for the OI, at least). Welcome to Young-and-angry, not so much to the cappie troll.
