Lardlad, emo came from hardcore and post-punk music, I think, and sometimes sounds like angry indie music, imho, at least. Emo refers to the emotionally raw aspect of the music, which is supposed explore a range of emotions from sadness and melancholy to anger and frustration. I've heard people describe bands like Korn as Emo, because Jonathan Davis gets really worked up in his performances, most of the time he can't help breaking down on stage, which is a typical trait of most Emo bands, or so I reckon. Other bands include the likes of bands like Frodus or Fugazi. Great stuff.

Hate: hard gangster rap, country, and pop-punk bullshit, and last but NOT least EMO!! shitty ass music.

Everyone who has stated punk.. what kind of punk are you talking about. Real punk (exploited, dead kenn, rancid, casualties, etc.) or pop-punk bullshit (nfg, snitch, and all that other garbage shit)?

emo = emocore = emotional hardcore

Some emo's cool, Jimmyeatworld are quite cute. New Found Scklory are not emo, they are bollox, possibly the worst band I have ever heard. Fuck pop punk.

Favourite genres: metal, hardcore, punk rock (as opposed to pop punk), grunge, rock, alt-dance.

Least favourite: commercial hip hop, pop, r 'n' b, nu-metal, pop punk, garage, house, everything else lol.

i love music. that's it. be it the sound of my shoes as i run on gravel, or bach, or rain (the stuff from the clouds), or nine inch nails...

sometimes i might only like ten seconds of a song, but it's still great music... sometimes music is only the lyrics to me.

whether something is 'good' or 'bad' always depends on what you 'want'... and music/art is dead as soon as you do things BECAUSE people want you to. then you're nothing but a slave, nothing but a machine.

music is a happily experienced accident.

Aha!

FAVEs: Jazz (Miles Davis is the man), Latin (pretty broad, but it includes son, salsa, bomba, plena, cha-cha-cha, danza, boleros, etc. and even includes Bossa Nova), Hip-Hop (Can we say Mos Def?).

LEAST FAVEs: Well, honestly, I love music in general. There's not much of anything I don't like.. I like a lot of pop, country, commercial poppy rap (Nelly makes me want to grind on the dance floor, I love it!), R&B, and other stuff.

Edit
PS: I really like dance music! Ya know, trance, techno, etc.

in your anti-arrogance and anti-commercial attitude makes you just as good a target-group as the pop-morons...

but i have to admit that i am of course doing the same thing... if we are serious about pop, then pretty much everything that is POPular and every band several members of several countries of this forum know, IS POP...ular... i mean... who doesnt know the sex pistols? who doesnt know nirvana, who doesnt know bob dylan, who doesnt know the cure, ministry, the prodigy etc. ?

well,. all i am trying to say is that i dont think i am to judge what some kid is doing on mtv with his guitar in his hand...

being known doesn't make u pop. I know who the sex pistols are but I don't like them.

Pop music is whatever is currently listened to by the majority of record buyers.

Saying that we don't like pop means we don't like the direction that current popular music is going in.

I mean you know who Nelly is don't you? Does that mean you like him?

Of all those bands/people you mentioned I only like Nirvana.

Being well known and being part of Pop culture are two totally different things.

Alot of people who listen to underground rap like Mos Def but that doesn't mean he's part of the POPular music scene.

more than likely its a station that plays commercial rap.

Hip Hop isn't the same as rap.

Rap is rapping and there is rap that isn't like the kind on that station.

Hip Hop is a culture involving DJ'ing Rapping, and Break Dancing.

I bow before you on your views of both rap(bad) and grunge(fucking awesome)

here is my problem with punk: 80% of it sucks complete ass.

I don't mean to come down so harshly on it but most of these "punks" are a bunch of posers.

If you care at all, I like a few real punk bands like sex pistols, Dks, Exploited, anti-flag, seaweed, and social D. These are the only punk bands that I truly love. I also like the Irish punk bands like the Molly flogger jogger whatevers. they are also very good.

All that other shit like green day, rancid, afi, nofx, and all that other garbage, I can do without. I most especially can't stand rancid. What a bunch of tossers they are.

same goes for grunge and punk...
grunge is essentially punk. or jazz... just like punk is essentially jazz, cause it is about music. music knows no labels...

what we all need to realize is that people like certain music because thats what they like.

Grunge music doesn't speak to me, hip-hop and jazz.

Grunge speaks to you, hip hop doesn't.

Grunge has relatively nothing to do with anything I go through so why would I listen to it?

Thats the way music is either it speaks to you or its doesn't.

You abviously don't know the history of Rancid, and therefore shouldnt be calling them posers. Most of that band was previoulst known as Operation Ivy, an amaizng punk band. Punk -not that pop shit

Rock-alt,hard,reg

Reggae-So easy to relax to while smok'n some dope "mon"

Electronic-yeah okay I'm sorry but I like it

Jazz-I play the french horn in a band and though it's not jazz I hear alot of jazz music in band so I kind of grew to like it

(Death)metal-just some like Canibal Corpse, CKY2k ect..

Dislikes:

Pop-ok heres the deal with pop. Pop=popular, so anything can be popular. You could consider Linkn Park pop (correct me if I'm wrong) as for the boy bands and all of that shit, I don't even know what you could clasify it as, temporarily pop but that may change. I can't stand it though, everything that is "big" right now I can't stand especially that Avril Lavigne chick...god somebody please kill her!

Rap,hip-hop,rb-I know I sound so retarded for saying this but it's all the same to me and I dislike it greatly, I do like maybe one song from City High though, but is that even rap, hip-hop or r&b???

Poser Musakh-these are just bands that I HATE that have compeltly sold out:Linkn Park,Sum 41, Blink 182...yeah you get the picture basically pop-punk-rock whatever you want to call it (I'm trying not to title things as much because last time I did [sell out thread] GR totally *****ed at me :( *cry* I'm sorry)

Thats about it...as for the emo, I don't know sometimes it can be fun but I understand how it is excessivley annoying and fake. Alot of people consider Weezer as emo, which I really don't consider them such, I really like Weezer, they are so different from the average band. All rock is sounding the same to me lately puddleof-nickle-incuc-reed you know...Weezer is a good escape from that

I apologize for the long post...please disregard it and proceed

yes I admit I don't know much about hip,hop so I shouldn't judge, but what I've heard on "MTV" and the "radio" I dislike...I should have worded it better I apolgize, I'm sure if I heard some better hip hop I wouldn't dislike it so much

yeah the hip hop (if you can call it that, I call it hip pop) on MTV sucks.

I mean like the underground stuff that stays true to hip hop's roots
