Interesting, I wonder if we have any here.
I suspect we do, though "privatized" in the typical manner of right-wing operations. I recall within days of 9-11 that suddenly an army of voices appeared on political message boards and chats calling for an invasion of Iraq. Silly me I recall responding to one saying "Even the Bush administration won't be that foolish." Ugh. But since then I've become more familiar (cynical?) about the manner in which the internet is used by political operations, and I realize now I was dealing with neocon astroturf.

In other news, anyone read this yet? (http://news.xinhuanet.com/english/2009-04/14/content_11184581.htm)
Thousands of dolphins suddenly leaped out of water between pirates and merchants when the pirate ships headed for the China's. The suspected pirates ships stopped and then turned away. The pirates could only lament their littleness befor the vast number of dolphins.

Does anyone if these astroturfers have actually had any influence on the masses?

How dirty is that! I promise you that China and Russia are not alone. Some western governments are bound to use the same technique. They (westerners, Chinese and russian bloggers) should all be exposed as the cons they are.

Pay for voicing a certain opinion? That sounds disgusting, but one can hardly be surprised, I know certain companies do exactly the same though

Interesting, I wonder if we have any here. Its a fairly common marketing technique in the West. Disseminating "favourable comments" on forums/sites is a ploy most associated (http://hardware.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=09/01/17/166226) with the tech sector
