Bob Marley, and...ahh what's the other guys name? Oh yeah, Peter Tosh. Those two are basically the only ones I know in reggae, I'd love to know more!

Bob Marley is the GREATEST ARTIST OF ALL TIME, PERIOD. I'm listening to Exodus right now, every song on that albume is good.
Peter Tosh was good, his guitar was cool. But he was a whiney baby, getting mad just cuz Bob was more sucessful.
bUnny Wailer was cool to

Man, you shouldn't disrespect Peter like that, he didn't really care about success man. He had the oppurtunity to have basically the same contract as Bob after the break up of the Wailers. He didn't want it cos' Chris Blackwell (or Chris Whiteworst, as Peter affectionately called him), was, well, the worst I guess.
Peter's actually the fucking Man! He got horribly beaten by those asshole cops after singing 'Legalise It' at the 'One Love Peace Concert'. He made a big speech about how weed should be legalised, so Jamaica could 'feed the world with food'. He said also people are waiting for Jesus and 'all the wars in the world, Jesus cyan't do a thing 'bout them that grass cyan't'.
I love it!

Wasn't Peter beaten by pigs for like 5 hours? One after another? Damn, but Bob Marley was also shot in the chest and arm but still played a peace concert...I think. I don't think one person was better than the other. I do like the guitar that looked like an AK-47, that was cool.

'Did you hear what he said after Bob died?
Peter: Now maybe the rest of us will have a chance. '
Where did you read/hear that?
That is pretty cold hearted but, hey.
After the band broke up they remained friends. One day Peter was driving back from Bob's house with his girlfriend and they were in a horrible car accident Peter's girlfriend was killed and his superstition stopped him from returning to Bob's house. Its a pretty sad story really.

If you're interested here is a link to a long, overblown, dragged out "debate" about Bob's position in the Reggae world. Whether he was overrated, etc. etc.

I used to be a total Reggae maniac, now I'm also into different types of music but reggae always has a special place in my heart. So naturally I did a lot of research into the Wailers and the dynamics between them.
Basically, Peter and Bunny didn't want to leave Jamaica and tour around "Babylon", they were more into hanging with other Rastas in Bull Bay. Chris Blackwell gave them what amounted to an ultimatum: get with the commercial obligations of stardom or get out of the band, and they got out and Bob stayed to make it. Now, I'm a huge fan of Bob's and I agree with his position, since he spent the money he made to make life easier for a lot of families all over Jamaica.
However, it must hurt to watch him go on to conquer the world and no-one outside the reggae world even knew who Peter Tosh was. He also disagreed with some of the billings, he claims to have written songs and played on tracks thaty he wasn't credited with or paid for by Chris "Whiteworst", and the hatred between them was no secret.
Anyway, Peter is one of the coolest guys in modern history in my oppinion, and I base that on the film "The Red X Tapes" which I understand is quite rare. I accidentally stole the only copy I ever came across, borrowed it and moved to another continent without having returned it. Later I met the guy I thought owned it and gave him a big bag of ganja as an apology, but later I was told the tape wasn't his, hehe, so the original owner is still pissed and some guy made off with the weed.
Anyway, GET the movie, it's fantastic. It's actually made by Peter himself, compiled together after his death from audio and video tapes he would make as a diary alone without telling people about it. Many of the scenes are just him in a darkened room, smoking a huge joint while talking about life, many interesting insights.
The reason for the name of the documentary is that whenever he saw his name in official government records it had a big red X next to it, even on his ID which is shown in the movie. He was never told what it meant, but whenever the cops saw it he was detained and beaten!
One last thing, Peter Tosh shouldn't be taken 100% seriously about some things, he threatened to kill Bob Marley several times and threatened Keith Richards' life once too. One time he came screaming about some white girl Bob had been screwing, saying he was gonna kill him for it, but when Bob came home later and was told about it he laughed and said Peter said that all the time but nothing ever happened. Later he came over and mentioned nothing about the insane episode earlier in the day or the white girl he had been so angry about before. He was a pretty unusual guy...
The Keith Richards' thing was over a house that Keith owned in Jamaica and Peter got to live in most of the year. Keith came to Jamaica and didn't tell Peter he had to move out untill he was actually landed and at the airport. Angry at being kicked out with no notice he laid claim to the house on the phone and said he had a gun and a posse with him who would kill Keith if he came home, but again nothing spectacular happened when they eventually met at the house.
So, basically, judge carefully and love I and I brethren
I guess I like Peter because he was insane like me ;)
