Hey, Public Enemy just came out with a new album but I haven't heard it yet.

Anyway, for rebel rap music type stuff check out Dead Prez or the Coup.

For Mos Def type shit check out the latest installment of SoundBombing. Unfortunatley, there isn't a lot of hot shit out right now. Most is mindless bling, bling crap. The Beatnuts, ED OG, 7L and Esoteric, Keith Murray.

have you heard the song last emperor did with krs 1 and zach de la rocha from the lyricist loung cd, vol 1 from 98 i think? that song is tight! its called CIA (criminals in action)

Lardlad95

CIA sounds tigght.

Haven't heard that much KRS One except for when he killed nelly.

I wanna hear Nelly ad Mos Def battle just so I can see Mos Def kill Nelly

abstractmentality
4th August 2002, 05:25
nelly is a dumb ass. i hate that guy. their is a radio station from UCR that i listen to on sundays here, and they have a show called the Ghetto Blaster show, which plays ONLY underground hip-hop and classic breaks. very cool stuff. anyway, they always play the KRS one diss on nelly, and then make fun of nelly afterward. its great. i dont know what he was thinking when he went off on KRS, KRS...KRS...well, its KRS, nough said!

man we never get any stations that play under ground hip-hop only that bullshit you find on MTV.

ITs an insult to the African American community.

but still you think Nelly does battles? I swear to GOd even evidence would kill him and evidence sucks.

Well he sucks as in IrisScience and Babu saved "Worst Comes to Worse" cuz Evidence's part was kinda weak.

evidence has his days, like on the track Searching for Bobby Fisher, when he just rips up eminem. but then he has his off days as well. not sure how well he would do in a battle though.

blazin arrow is great

on the radio show the ghetto blaster, they also have a little skit called "the puff daddy process of making a hit" (or something like that). it has all of these steps, and its so funny. one of the steps is to sample old songs and not be original, cause being original just doesnt sell and if you just bring back the old bass lines, everything will be ok. another one is to not have any self respecting women on the record; women who show that they are something on a record doesnt sell either. i love that shit, im going to have to record it one day.

perception: yes, i love that song.

I've always been curious about hip hop, but never really into the stuff. But I'm really starting to admire turntablism, I love watching Dj battles and stuff, but it's a pity that people don't seem to appreciate all that, instead they just listen to radio-friendly commercial "bouncy" shite like Ja rule.

Great thread! I've heard much from The Coup, Last Emperor, and Blackalicious, but i'll definitely check them out when i get a chance to (unforunaly i can't download music on my computer).

Lauryn Hill and KRS-ONE are my favorit MC's... but i dig most somewhat conscious/positive music: Nas, Talib Kweli, Mos Def, Guru, Common, Tupac, Apani, DJ Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince, Eminem, Rakim, etc, etc.

thatss the difference between hip-hop and rap.

Hip hop includes Dj's rap, break dancing, etc.

Rap is only a small part of Hip Hop.

a really good dj you might want to look nto is Dj Babu from Dialated People

I also want to start DJing but I need to buy some equipment first.

I suggest checking out The Roots also, and Aesop Rock.

And Dialated People.

I liked DJ Jazzy Jeff, but not Will Smith aka the fresh prince.

His rhymes are to corny and he can't seem to realize that hip hop has progressed

13th August 2002, 23:29
I know the Roots, but that's not really my sound. DJ Jazzy Jeff is the illest (he's releasing his solo debute next week-it's hot!) and i like Fresh Prince... he was a positive spirit when most other rappers were talking about shooting their fellow black man. c'mon... don't hate. most people dissin him actually haven't heard a lot of their material. I bet Jazzy Jeff & Fresh Prince would be one of the most repsected hiphop groups of all time if Will Smith hadn't gone solo... lol

Lardlad95
14th August 2002, 02:57
you don't like the roots, thats just fuckin weird.

I like Jazzy Jeff, but Will Smith isn't the best rapper out there.

He's stuck in the late eighties and early nineties and its kinda sad.

14th August 2002, 11:33
Stuck in the 80's? WTF... he's not doin the same music as back then... you obviously haven't heard any of their old records... they WERE ill. Lardlad95

I mean his style is stuck back there.

Adreniline, The Next movement, Dynamite, You Got Me, Glitches, Hip Hop you the love of my life, What You Want, Double Trouble, Mellow My Man.

Are you sure you are talking about the Roots and not THe NAppy Roots? Cuz I'm talking about the Roots

Sorry about the delayed response. I haven't visited the music forum in awhile.

I'd love to upload some 7L and Eso but I don't know how to go about doing it. I am a computer dummy. If you can't send me some instructions on how to, take my advice and pick it up....its hot!!! Btw, you gotta support local hip hop (thier from Boston).

I'm still saying see them live, they be on it for real.

I think Jazzy Jeff is better now that Will Smith is selling out to MTV
