Its expressing myself, I walk around with rage against the machine and Bob Marley shirts. Let people see what is good music.
It's kind of both. But if you wear a t shirt from a band that is concious and supports good causes you could turn someone else on to it.

band shirts are cool as long as it's from an independent label. indepedent bands about the music, or at least the ones i listen to. it's support for good music. but if you're wearing a major label band, you're probably just helping pay for their limo or whatever hip drug addiction is out.

i used to wear lots of band shirts but since they went "in " i reallly stopped. it was just too weird wearing the same shirt as the guy next to me, who says he bought it at hot topics  but i still wear some of them, (che shirts went in too)

you wear them to support the bands you like. you are willing to let everyone who can see your shirt know that you like that band. and they may then go out and listen to them, thus making a new fan. yes you are advertising, but you are willingly and knowingly doing it.

i wear t-shirts related to a band which are against corporate control, reside on the political left and sell t-shirts through their own label which are made laboriously without the use of mass production.
i don't think there's anything wrong with that

It symbolises you like a band. My word, what is the world coming to?
>i mean your not gonna be wearing a shirt that says im gay now are you?!
Why not? Would that be a bad thing?

On a side note, i despise with a passion t-shirts that glamourise violence. You can buy a t-shirt with the Calvin Klein logo over here, but instead it says "Cop Killer" (i'm sure you're understanding me) and they always make me feel ill. If anyone can ever think killing a police officer is a good thing then i am truly disgusted. I have yet to see anybody wearing one, but if i ever do the dude is getting a slap.

i gotta be quick, yeah zippy's right but i get so pissed off with the millions of slipknot t-shirts and hoodies and akll the rest, iut's so refreshing when you see something different and original. I never wear band t-shirts, simply cos I never see one I want to wear, although I have been known to borrow them!

Don't you feel the same way about this? What about films like Pulp Fiction? That's violent too...what about Braveheart? or Menace II Society or La Haine?
ah.......forget it...

I beleive there is a difference between t-shirts that say "i like this band" and a t-shirt that says "i kill police officers".
>What about films like Pulp Fiction? That's violent too...what about Braveheart? or Menace II Society or La Haine?
Media is a very complex thing, and if there was a film about how much fun it is to kill police officers then i would despise it with the same energy. Pulp Fiction does glamourise violence, but it has an 18 certificate and i beleive people are clever enough to know that shooting people isn't all fun and games. Braveheart is just shite, so i refuse to comment about that, and Menace To Society is a social critique, which also has its place.
There is a difference between a film where a man gets shot and a t-shirt that announces "its good to kill cops". One has its place in society and the other is crude and ugly. You work out which is which.

Yeah. Like me, I wear a shirt and tie, kinda like The Hives or The Icarus Line. Either that or go all grungy and wear faded longsleeves.
Seriously, until a few months back I was terrible with band t-shirts. They were all black, faded and boring. Amen, Tool, Slipknot, RATM, At the Drive-in, Korn, I have a whole lotta almost identical t-shirts at the back of my wardrobe.

A more individual style looks tonnes better than band t-shirts. I am however planning on getting a balck hoody (probably with a band on it) but only cos it's useful for being lazy in.

It's not a corporation you're supporting. It's art. The Fantomas shirt I am wearing right now is not representative of capitalist America, it's a representation of a band.

very funny Zippy! but i want to scare people, make them think i'm something i'm not! manipulationis such fun! besides it'll piss off my rents. i was thinking aobut cradle of filth, not cos i like them, they're so repeative! but the "jesus is a ****" would be good, or some naked girl covered in blood! mmMMMmm
anyway! so basically i don't like slipknot or limp bizkit but anything original is cool, not that it really makes any difference! (sorry apathy and nihilism coming thorugh!)

To metalheads, wearing band tshirts signifies what you can/cannot understand.
Some guy wearing a Burzum tshirt always gets more respect than someone with a Pantera shirt.

sadly, i own many "mainstream" shirts. Quiksilver, Billabong, etc. I also have a che shirt and a RATM shirt or two, but for the most part i look like a sheep. For the formal last year i went with my hair spiked and an untucked white dress shirt with a black tie a la Zach. Band shirts are good. They symbolize what your taste in music is, and i suppose that could be good or bad.

What matters is wether or not you personally see what you are doing as wrong/detramental to others or yourself in any way. Pictures and words are forms of expression, brand names make you the corporate yuppie not the music that pleases you. Wear what you like but only if your poud, that is what I say.
