i know this is a dumb question and it has been asked before many times before. but who do you guys think
started punk? as for me, (even though it doesnt matter much who started it, i just love talking about itd) i think the ramones started punk.

oh and who is your fav. old school punk rock band?

i think iggy and the stooges started punk. although they might not have that "so-called old school sound" as the sex pistols and the ramones, they definitely represent the idea of "punkness" and were one of the first to showcase that idea. punk has obviously evolved into something else but i say they are a significant part of the beginnning. my favorites include iggy, ramones and x among many others.

SEX PISTOLS!!! The Ramones are good, but I LOVE THE SEX PISTOLS!!! I don't know about who started punk, I think it just exploded, but THE SEX PISTOLS RULE!

Um... Punk rock was started by the New York Dolls.

After that came bands like Ramones, Blondie, etc out of CBGB's in New York City..

Sex pistols was later on.

The Clash certainly did not start punk, but they are definitely my favourite old school punk band. I can't believe they haven't already been mentioned!
