I've been a big fan of Nightwish's since their first publication in Finland, I remember it being back in 1997. Angel fall first is really close album for me, lots of.. well, even hurting memories.
Oceanborn has good memories, too.
Then it began. The Big Thing. Wishmaster... Well, it took me a while to get into it, it's good, yes. :)
But. This new one, Ceuntury Child. It was quite a disappointment. It weren't Nightwish at all! Well, maybe oceansoul, but not the other ones.
I love Tarja's voice. Some say that "it's good, music, but the screaming spoils it all!" Well, everyone's got their own taste, but you can't really say that she can't sing - being through Sibelius acade, wich is one of the best music schools here in Finland - tells you something about her singing skills. :)
As for blind guardian, I haven't heard much of it, but.. well, it sucks in my opinion. Beautiful music now and then, but.. oh, well...

Slayer rule m//
Metallica ruled until Master of Puppets
Sabbath were cool in the 70s
Sepultura rocked until Max left
Megadeth are shitty sell-outs
COF are cool at times (cue angry Zippy ;) )
Emperor I have respect for, but do not like
Ministry are cool
Pantera have some great songs but are dumb fuckin rednecks
Napalm Death ditto as Emperor
Check out the new sound: Killswitch Engage, Mushroomhead, American Head Charge etc

I've listened to all those bands you mentioned there, some I even have purchased their first albums in vinyl when they came out...
However I have never heard of a single band listed in the first post.
However, my favorite heavy Metal band was IRON MAIDEN:... in high school I had long hair, a leather jacket, and a denim vest I would wear over the leather that had Number of the Beast on the back.

[edit:] and that was about 1985, so the album was already three years old.

mhm...for those who havenīt heard of Blind Guardian yet, iīve copy a lyric, called precious Jerusalem.
What do you think of this lyric?
No doubt
Doubt
No longer need to hide it
I've found out who I am
I'm moved around in circles
I rise and fall again
I know it well
Every word I tell
Seems to make no sense at all
Worlds will heal it
Love will conquer the hearts of the hopless
The Almighty is still alive
Risin' up from the heart of the desert
Risin' up for Jerusalem
Risin' up from the heat of the desert
Building up old Jerusalem
Risin' up for Jerusalem
Risin' up from the heat of the desert
Heading out for Jerusalem
I've gone beyond
But there's no life
And there is nothing how it seems
I've gone beyond
But there's no life
There is no healing rain in Eden
The empty barren waisted Paradise
Let's celebrate the dawning of the son
I turn to you oh my precious Jerusalem
Deny your Prophets their passion
And treat them like fools
I turn to you oh my poor old Jerusalem
Deny my love but you can't change fate
Son of man you truly are mine
Can't stand the pain
No more grief and misery
It goes on and on and on and on and on and on and on
Father stop it now
We must stop it now
You really think you are half way up
I would not mind if you were right
It's not sure
I'd rather say you are half way down
So I am going to help you if I can
I've been caught
In wilderness
In wilderness
I've going out well
I found myself
In desert lands
In desert lands
But you've been on my mind
I turn to you oh my precious Jerusalem
Deny your Prophets their passion
And treat them like fools
I turn to you oh my poor old Jerusalem
Deny my love but you can't change the truth
Rise up and follow me
Cause I will bring the light
Rise up and follow me
Wake up and clear your mind
thats it!

I agree with you 110% on everything mentioned except Megadeth. I love megadeth. How are they sell outs? Maybe I don't know as much about them as I had thought.

Dave Mustaine quit Metallica after a row before they came famous. When Metallica hit the bigtime, he decided to form some rip-off band to try and compete with them. He failed, so he started taking drugs and briefly attained critical praise. However, the drugs fucked him up so he went clean and lost his popularity. In short, he's a twat and a shit musician.
James - check out Mushroomhead. If you like AHC, you could well like them.

Particuarly the case with metal I find. A genre that incorporates Linkin Park, Emperor and Iron Maiden is almost impossible to discuss in general terms.

A couple of years ago this high school kid was working with us for the summer as a plumber's helper. We went to a Deli for lunch, and I was making small talk... I asked the kid what kind of music he liked and he said, "Heavy Metal".. and I said, " Oh yea? I was a metal head back in the day, what bands do you like?".. and he said.. " I really like Limp Bizket. "...
I couldn't stop laughing... oh my god... my sides flet like they where splitting!!
The kid got all angery and asked what was so funny. The other guy I was working with replied without looking up from his lunch, " You see, when we where young.. bands where called stuff like Iron Maiden, AC/DC, Judas Priest, Metalica, Megadeath, Suicidal Tendencies, Slayer, etc..
Limp Bizket.. sounds like a wennie band. "

that made me laugh! it's so true thogh, you get all these kids (i can'tt alk, i'm only 15) thinking they're really hard lsitenign to linkin park (just another packaged boy band really) and limp bizkit (what is up with durst??!!!).
oh well, what can i say, we're not gonna change their minds. i get a fair bit of shit for my music tast. have you ever heard of dark tranquility? they're cool, my mate desribed them as metallica with weird vocals. the vocals are kind deep dani fith, hard to secribe, not bad but i tend to jsut listen to the guitars in the background.
sorry about typos, i'm tired.

Who described them as that??
Yeah nu-metal's bollox. The sad thing is, there's a lot of high quality metal coming out all the time but people just listen to Linkin Park and Limp Bizkit. I don't care though, Slipknot's music rules. Like I said before, check out Killswitch Engage, American Head Charge, Mushroomhead and others.

Well this is a post. A post is a post, but not a post when the poster is not the poster but the poster of post like this post by this poster.
Sorry, just had to let some of my madness out.
Through a Lord of the Rings forum i met some real metalheads. They were all into theyse power metal and the likes bands; Blind Guardian, Rhapsody, Battlelore, Dream Theater, Haggard, Hammerfall, Manowar, Nighwish, Summoning, Therion ... i heard their praising of these and found audiogalaxy to be my favourite program (apart from games). Before the corp idiots shut it down i got down 800 megabytes...really nothing, it annoys me i didn't get down more, stupid me...
A little roundup of those of them of i bother to write something about....
Rhapsody-varying quality, but Eternal Glory, The march of the Swordmaster, Lmaento Eroico, Dawn of Victory are great.
Blind Guardian-easy to recognize with the polyfony. Favourtites have to be Nightfall in Middle Earth, The Bard's song: The Hobbit, Battlefield.
Summoning-cool, cold, good or whatever. i'm sick, but you knew that, well whatever, back to topic. When hope and daylight die is just great. Through the forest of Dol Guldur, The loud music of the sky, Farewell also recommeneed.
QuackQuackQuackQuackQuackQuackQuackQuack

I like sepultura, nailbomb, iron maiden, metallica, slayer, megadeth, thy serpent, black sabbath etc.
although Sepultura went shit with Roots (I only like a few songs, compared to the 90% of songs i like on their other albums before) although when they got Derrick things got better, because that brought political stuff back and I like Derricks voice(compared to that one of Max during Roots)
