There was something similar happening in DC I believe, I got this from the Reopen Franklin Homeless Shelter campaign (http://franklinshelter.org/index.php?sn=42) that a mate of mine is involved in:
- Mayor Fenty of DC closed down 23 Neighbourhood schools without proper public input in 2008, and is selling 11 public (comprehensive, for British speakers) schools to real estate developers. At the same time, DC wards 7 and 8 have the highest illiteracy rates in the whole of the US!
Seems like this will continue to grow as a trend around the world in this current climate.
